LOVE TROPES - HQ BOYS
ft. osamu miya, daichi sawamura, kei tsukishima, keishin ukai, atsumu miya
should i be working on the highly requested pt. 2 to my recent works thatâs currently sitting in my drafts? yes. should i also probably be working on the few requests iâve got in my inbox? also yes. am i still over here writing whatever this is instead of doing those things? absolutely. at least iâm writing something!
OSAMU: friends to lovers.
you had been friends with the miya twins since high school. you had always butt heads with atsumu; bickering back and forth about anything and everything. but it was different with osamu. it felt like you both understood each other, in a way. plus the mutual dislike you both had for atsumu definitely helped. and now, nearly 8 years later, your friendship was still going strong.
well past 8pm, you stood over the front counter at onigiri miya with samu cleaning behind the counter for closing, and atsumu sitting at a stool next to you.
âi donât know what his problem is! we go out for drinks one night, wind up at his place, and then the next day he canât even be bothered to send me a single fucking text. seriously. iâm done!â you were going on about your.. most recent boyfriend.
âwhy donâtcha just dump him then?â atsumu offered, his mouth full of the onigiri osamu had made for him.
âatsumu, youâre disgusting! and i canât because we arenât even a thing! which is goodâi donât want us to be.â
osamu laughed at you two from behind the counter.
âokay well then whatâs the problem! i donât understand you women,â atsumu exclaimed, licking off the last bits of onigiri form his fingertips and shoving his plate behind the counter. âiâve got practice tomorrow. so iâm gone. some of us actually have real problems that arenât centered around one night stands with guys!â
âoh right, atsumu, like your sex life is any better,â you muttered. the door slammed shut behind him as the bell above the door exhibierst through the building.
you sighed, sinking further into your chair.
âhere,â osamu slid a plate towards you. âmight make âya feel better. plus i need feedback to see if itâs worth addinâ to the menu.â
you smiled. âthanks, osamu. and yeah, iâll give good feedback, promise!â
osamu smiled to himself as he wiped down the back counter. yeah, sure, after 8 years of pining he was no closer to asking you out. but, no matter what, heâd always be here to make you food whenever another boy made you cry.
DAICHI: love at first sight.
it had been a long practice and daichi had decided to treat everyone to a snack down at sakanoshita. daichi stood with suga and asahi waiting for the 1st and 2nd years to finish grabbing their fill. tanaka and noya had seen daichi paying as an opportunity to grab whatever they wanted.
âcâmon you guys!â suga yelled from across the store. âwe donât have all day!â
it has been a long day of classes for you, so it wasnât even an option in your mind whether you should stop at the convenience store or not. only now you had found yourself in your own little debate.
âmilk tea.. or coffee?â you mumbled to yourself. you were bent down over the drinks section taking your sweet time.
daichi turned around to see you and knew he was gone right then and there.
suga scoffed at the two 2nd years taking their time, only to turn back and find daichiâs gaze focused on you.
âhey, daichi, maybe we shouldââ he started, but stopped as soon as he noticed daichi staring. he whispered to asahi and they both began berating their poor captain.
âcâmon, dude! why donât you just go talk to them? we obviously have the time!â suga nudged at his arm.
daichi denied anything. âhey, i donât even now what youâre talking about, suga! weâre here for snack for the team, just go focus on that.â
âhey, donât we go to school with them? y/n l/n. class 2, i think,â asahi piped up. he couldnât remember where exactly he knew you from, though.
daichi was sure if he had gone to school with you, heâd remember.
âtheyâre in photography club! thatâs how i know them! they asked me to join after i dropped out of volleyball,â asahi recalled, loud enough to grab your attention.
you looked up to find the set of 3rd years staring in your direction. your drink in hand, you made your way up to them.
âazumane, right? nice to see you again!â you beamed.
ây-yeah, right! good to see you too, l/n,â he smiled, nervously.
âare you guys in line?â you questioned.
ânoâno weâre not! sorry about that!â daichi apologized, moving to the side to allow you to get to the register.
you placed your drink on the counter, making small talk with the guy at the front register.
âcâmon, daichi! if you donât ask them before they leave you might not get to again!â suga whispered.
âsuga, let it go. itâs too strangeâthey donât even know me.â
suga shoved daichi forward just as you turned around to make your way towards the door.
âoh! hi!â you mused.
âs-sorry. hi.. again.â
âsawamura, right? youâre the captains of the volleyball team!â you smiled.
âyeah, i am. and youâre l/n, right? asahi was telling me about you. youâre in photography.
âi am, actually! and please, just call me y/n!â
âthen just call me daichi!â
first name basis after 10 minutes? way to go daichi!
âactually..â you started. âi was wondering if itâd be possible for me to take some action shots of the volleyball team? i was going to use them for an upcoming project of mine. of course if not, thatâs okay too! you probably need to talk it over with the team.â
âyeahâabsolutely! iâll have to talk it over with everyone, but i donât see it being a problem at all,â he said, nervously rubbing the back of his neck. âwhat class are you in? i can talk to you some time next week to figure out what day would work best.â
âhere,â you said, turning around to the man behind the counter. âexcuse me, do you have a pen i could borrow?â
the man tossed you a pen, not giving a second look to you from behind his magazine. you pulled out daichiâs arm and started scribbling down numbers.
your.. phone number?
ânow you can call me, thatâll be easier!â you smiled. âanyways, i gotta run. see you later, daichi. tell azumane i said bye too!â
he was speechless. did he really manage to get your number without even trying?
suga ran up behind him. âdude! how? you hardly said anything to them!â
âwow, daichiâs got skills with the ladies!â tanaka mused, noya trailing behind them. their arms were stacked full with all kinds of snacks.
he was definitely not paying for all of those.
KEI: academic rivals to lovers.
you worked at the library at the university you attended. tsukishima had seen you around campus a few times. yamaguchi would go as far as to describe you as tsukishimaâs âcampus crushââwhich tsukki of course denied. he hardly even knew you.
but, this semester is when things finally got interesting. you had wound up taking the course tsukishima was the TA for.
you were currently bent down behind a bookshelf in the campus library, organizing the books that needed to be put away. you noticed a hand grab a book off your cart.
you stood up. âanything you need help finding?â
âno,â the man stated, blankly.
you examined the book in his hand. âwait. are you in psych 301? havenât seen you in there before.â
âkei tsukishima. iâm the assistant in that class this semester.â
âoh! iâm y/n l/n. are you reading that book for fun then, or?â
âi know. i graded your last essay. something about the human consciousness or whatever,â he stated, pushing his glasses to the bridge of his nose.
your face went hot. âoh? so you were the one that gave me a B- on that. that was the best paper iâve written all semester!â
âyeah, only because you canât write any better ones. and maybe actually read the syllabus before you join the class,â he deadpanned.
âokay, mr. know-it-all. and for what itâs worth, i did in fact read the syllabus.â
âwell if you actually paid attention, then youâd know this book was meant to be read alongside the other materials.â
wait. what?
before you could say another word, he placed the book back down in the cart. âmy email is on the syllabus if youâd actually care to read it. good luck actually passing the class.â
you were so going to find that syllabus. and you were definitely doing to pass that class.
KEISHIN: second chance.
stepping foot into sakanoshita after years felt like a dream. but seeing keishin, your high school boyfriend, sitting there behind the counter, was what really sent you back.
âkeishin?â
ukai actually took the time to look up form his magazine, and he was glad he did. ây/n?â
âkeishin!â you smiled. âi didnât realize you family still owned the place!â
he stood up form his seat behind the counter. âyeah! work here part-time, coach volleyball the other half.
âyou coach volleyball? does the old ukai not coach anyone then?â
ânah, old man retired last year. still coaches a few younger kids on the side. but, hey, how have you been? itâs been years since i last saw you in miyagi. 4? 5, maybe?â
âyeah,â you sighed. âitâs definitely been awhile. but life has been great in tokyo. my internship finally ended and so iâm back here for the next month or two!â
âreally? you got to let me take you out sometimeâdrinks, to celebrate.â
you felt the slight rush of heat to your cheeks. âr-right! of course!â
âhey, if you wanted, we close in less than an hour. you could wait here till then, catch up, then let me take you out for drinks.â
âalright,â you smiled, taking a seat behind the counter next to ukai. âtell me about your team then. where do you coach? karasuno?â
you felt like you were 16 all over again. just him and you.
ATSUMU: opposites attract.
you were the promotional manager for the msby black jackals. everyone on the team loved youâyes, even sakusa. though he wouldnât admit it. but, atsumu being the sly guy he is, took every opportunity to flirt with you. of course, keeping things professional, you shut him down every chance you got. plus, it would never work. ever. you knew that.
he was childish, you were matureâtop of your office only a few months in. he was selfish half the time, and heâd always describe you as one of the most thoughtful people heâs ever met. he was confident and bold. you were quiet and reserved, at least time him. so when you find yourself alone with him at the gym one night late after practice, going through your binder of advertising ideas, you didnât know what to make of it. the way you could feel he eyes focused on you and only you drove you insane.
you finally took a break form your rant about new promotional ideas for the team, leaving a heavy silence between the two of you.
ây/n?â he finally said, breaking for silence.
âyeah, atsumu?â you respond, not looking up form your binder.
âyou should let me take âya out. i mean it.â
you quietly gasped to yourself.
sure, atsumu had made pass after pass at you every day for the last few months since you started working with the team. but, this time, he sounded so.. genuine.
whatâs even worse is you couldnât help yourself from the words the escape your lips in the last moment.
âokay.â

After what seemed like hours of convincing, heâs convinced by his friend to attend a performance in one of the theaters in Tokyo. He doesnât know how he got himself into this mess, honestly â letting his bouncing friend drag him to the theater and having to shut him up. But he doesnât regret it, because once he sees you onstage, he feels time stop. It's like he's fallen in love for the first time.
He couldâve sworn you made eye contact with him. It makes his heart flutter.
When the performance is finished, you bow down as different flowers are thrown onto the stage. He finds himself immediately going on his phone, searching for your name â he plans to binge watch all your works as soon as he gets home.
Unfortunately, his friend notices, and heâll never live it down.

SKIN PRESSED AGAINST ME TIGHT
àšà§ featuring: keishin ukai x afab! reader smut
àšà§ notes: im afraid i need him bad
not proofread!!
He wanted your first time to be special. He's had so many meaningless flings before because he was horny and stupid when younger, he doesn't want the same to happen to you as well. You're special to him, so he wanted to do things right for once. So much so he looked like kind of a dweeb during your first date, only allowing himself to kiss you when you leaned in first. It's not like he didn't want to kiss you â because god only knows how long he had been fantasizing about those soft lips of yours â but he was actually terrified of messing up the one good thing he had going on.
So when, during your third date at his place as you two were making out on the couch, he felt your hands traveling from his shoulders to his chest until they reached the hem of his pants, he almost thought about pulling away. It was obvious what you wanted. And fuck if he didn't want it as well. But he was still reluctant â what if everything goes wrong after this?
He didn't dare stop you, though. Not when you took off his shirt, not when you straddled his lap, and definitely not when you started taking your own clothes off as well. For once, the lust clouding his judgment didn't seem like such a bad thing anymore. And the way you would squirm and gasp softly when he ran his large hands over your exposed skin â god fucking dammit, he couldn't hold back anymore. Especially when you seemed just as eager.
He pushed you back against the cushions, running two fingers over your clothed core, and couldn't help the soft groan that escaped his throat when he felt how wet you were. He leaned down, nuzzling his face in the crook of your neck as his hand now reached inside your underwear, the tips of his fingers barely grazing your clit. "Eager little thing, ain't ya?" He murmured against your skin, as if he wasn't hard as a fucking rock right now.
His fingers started rubbing slow circles against your clit. Painfully slow. It's like he was aiming at teasing rather than pleasuring, and that theory only got confirmed when he chuckled as you whined for him to speed up. He just kissed your neck in response to your pleas, pushing your underwear to the side rather than actually taking it off before removing his hand. He grabbed the base of his cock, stroking it a few times before sliding it up and down your slit, his head collecting your juices and never actually pushing inside as he continued to pepper kisses from your jawline to your collarbone.
He nipped at your neck when you squirmed in frustration. "Shh... Let me enjoy this for a bit, yeah?" He whispered, running his free hand up from your waist to your breast before giving it a light squeeze. He pulled away a few seconds after, one hand holding the armrest for stability while the other lined up his cock with your entrance. He looked into your eyes as he slowly pushed in, his head parting your folds and bullying its way into your tight heat.
"Fuck..." He groaned, his head falling forward as he felt your walls squeeze his shaft. "God, you feel so fuckin' good," He moaned out and, after waiting to make sure you got used to his size, he started to move, pulling out almost entirely before pushing back in. He kept the pace slow, sensual even, one of his hands resting on your waist as his thumb rubbed gentle circles on your hip. He alternated between keeping his eyes closed to fully enjoy the feeling of you wrapped tight around him and keeping them open to watch your face contort in pleasure. Fuck, you looked so beautiful like that.
He leaned down, pressing his lips against yours, his thrusts never faultering. "Tell me if you want me to change something. Wanna make this good for you, too." He whispered, but when he buried himself just a bit deeper and felt the way your thighs started to shiver, he knew you were enjoying it. He wrapped an arm behind your lower back and the other snaking up to tangle in your hair, pulling your body flush against his. "You look so fuckin' sexy, doll... 'M so lucky." He mumbled, speeding up just a tiny bit.
His groans turned into shameless moans, strong arms still holding you tight against him like he wanted to feel every inch of your skin against his. "You're gonna be mine, right? Wanna be the only one to touch you like this." He sighed against your neck, and you could feel it in the way he was holding you, kissing you, fucking you, that he meant every word of it.

Being twenty-five and working in a high school as the office registrar who takes and checks attendance wasn't something I ever had planned. I always dreamed of having my own tea shop by this time in age, however, being the volleyball teams' second advisor really had its perks.
I was able to care and look after silly, ambitious high school kids but the really huge perk to that was that I had a special piece of eye candy to look forward to.
"Miss (Y/n)? Are you listening?" My coworker, Takeda, asked me politely as this was an often occurrence.
"Yes! What was it again?" I sheepishly asked, blinking my eyes in a way to make my good ole' friend view me as innocent.
"The papers, they need to be taken to the back gym. I'm so swamped, so do you mind?" He asked, swirling back around in his office chair after shoving the papers in my hand.
I took them but squinted my eyes at him when I knew he had already finished everything he had needed and was bluffing.
I scoffed, "Swamped? Yeah, okay..." I trailed off, rolling my eyes and leaving my own comfy, grey swirly chair.
As I began my walk towards the back gym, my hears picked up on the sounds of volleyballs smacking the floors very hard and the squeaking of gym shoes. I tried to hide my small smile but just couldn't, I loved these kids.
I especially liked their coach too, however, I would die before I admitted that.
Besides only having a couple boyfriends in high school, I basically knew nothing about datingâespecially dating as adults. So, I kept quiet about my small crush in which only Takeda knew about it.
I eyed inside the gym, watching the boys while waiting for someone to come near the doorway since I was too focused on seeing Ukai that I didn't bring my correct shoes. Luckily, Daichi saw me waving around the papers but I didn't expect what was to come because of that.
"Oh hey! It's (Y/n) coach." He announced, effectively stopping all movement in the gym and all eyes on meâincluding those particular dark brown eyes. I could feel a small heat run slowly vibrate through my body.
"Hey! I'm just dropping off these for Takeda. How's practice coming along? Any new moves guys?" I asked, trying my best to be normal and limit conversation with Ukai only because I wouldn't ever want to stop.
"Nishinoya is teaching me how to do a rolling thunder!" The first-year Hinata explained to me excitedly with the onomatopoeia touching his words. I couldn't help but to smile in amazement at the kid.
I've been one of the volleyball teams advisors so I know all of the third and second-years all too well. It was just the first-years I was trying really hard to make a good connection with, which was necessary if I still wanted to continue to be an advisor.
"Oh wow, that sounds so cool!" I played into his words too with excitement.
"(Y/n), I'll take those papers. Thank you for bringing them along." Ukai spoke, his deep voice reverberating through me and suddenly the heat was back.
"Oh! Yeah," I let out a nervous laugh, handing them to him as our hands brushed which sent a volt of electric shock through my body.
His tall frame leaned over me, the nice headband pushing his pretty hair backâman did he look good.
"I should probably get back to work. Bye guys." I said, breaking our concentrated gaze and waving to leave. I can't get caught up in his eyes, the team was there and that'd be weird for all of us.
Usually, I'd stay and help Kiyoko with coming up with notes of things that needed to be done like cleaning wise of our volleyball teams' banner, uniform shenanigans, finding another team manager since she was indeed a third-year, and money issues.
However, the fact that Ukai was there, he would distract me more and more until I couldn't focus.
I came to the conclusion that my feelings were one-sided and tried to keep my fondness for him to myselfâand Takeda. However, I couldn't help but to hear a little "ooo" in the background as I was walking away from the sports club.
I groaned as I smacked my head onto my desk which was my usual manner, then my complaining would start.
"You know..." I started off with before I heard Takeda whisper, "Here we go,"
"Hey! You're my friend, you should be a good friend and listen to my woes!" I reprimanded him with a glare before continuing.
"Oh woe is me! I just wish things were different and that I actually had the courage to confess. Is that even a thing anymore for people our age?" I rhetorically asked, even though I really did want an answer to my question.
I complained about how much I liked Ukai and how things in my life weren't how I wished they'd beâin which he would just say, "for now."
As I laid my head down I couldn't help but to remember a memory from a few weeks ago.
Kiyoko and I had just finished planning what needed to be done to the uniforms for the boys and my back was so sore from slouching.
Leaning straight, I heard my back pop and groaned.
"Miss (Y/n)? Did you ever think about other careers besides this one? I know dealing with high school kids can be a bit much sometimes," Kiyoko's soft voice reached my ears.
"Hm, yeah I do actually. I have always wanted to open up my own tea shop before," I smiled softly thinking of Ukai and how he took care of his mother's store as his own.
It's honestly a great act of compassion.
I glanced over to see if Ukai was listening and in fact, he was. I twinkled at how he was trying to appear as if he wasn't listening in on my dreams.
However, he's one of the main reasons why I even started talking about my tea shop with other people.
I could tell that his eyes were sparkling with curiosity of wanting to know who exactly made me feel this way.
I still get butterflies in my stomach every single time I think of that particular memory. The next thing I knew the school day was over and it was practically time to leave and go home. I never spaced out about Ukai that hard before.
Gathering my things, I said bye to Takeda. I knew we'd both have to be here tomorrow to finish up the last minute work that he pushed away.
My business-casual clothing was starting to make me itch in all in wrong places and I was suddenly happy that I wore flats instead of business heels today. As I made my way home, enjoying the fresh soon-to-be-summer breeze through the air, I realized today was unfortunately clean day.
I forgot that I needed to pick up more bathroom cleaner and kitchen spray which was a coincidence because on my way home the Sakanoshita Market was right there.
I chuckled at my silly behavior of getting giddy over entering, in which the little chime sounded. Surprisingly, Ukai was working even though it was right after school too.
"Hey, I was wondering where the cleaning supplies is..?" I looked over to Ukai, his eyes wide for a split second before turning back to normal after realizing that I was asking him a question.
"It's, uh, in the far back to the left." He pointed, trying to show me around the aisle of the left side.
I shone him a smile over my shoulder as a thanks and then headed my way towards where he directed. When I finally decided on what scent and kind of specific cleaning products I wanted, I made my way up front once again.
"Will that be all today, (Y/n)?" Ukai asked me as he scanned my items and bagging them. However, what threw me off guard was the way he said my name. It was something about the deep voice of his that made me swoon.
"Yeah, I think so. Wait, is it supposed to be that much?" I questioned, seeing the extremely low number in cost and that number was lower than what a convenience store should charge too.
"No, it's right. You get a little discount for being a wonderful person." He winked, which obviously made me blush never-ending.
"Ah, thank you so much. I really appreciate it aha," I gave him the very few cents and took my bag, walking out of the store. It seemed like he wanted to say more from the look on his face but I wasn't going to stay behind and make him uncomfortable if he didn't.
That interaction stayed on my mind all night and the following morning as I made my way briskly towards the school once again. I silently cursed myself for wanting to leave all the work for today instead of just enjoying a day at home.
I settled into the office, opening a window to let the breeze in. Takeda eventually came into work as well and we spent the morning and some of our lunch finishing the work nonstop.
I stretched my arms above my head, my limbs popping in some places due to my age.
âAgh, Iâm getting old.â I told to Takeda, looking over at him trying to see if he heard my bones popping like I had.
âYeah, just wait till youâre my age, (Y/n).â He chucked, straightening our last papers that we printed out and completed. I believe they were permission forms that needed to be signed by the volleyball teamsâ parents.
âIf those are going to the gym then I can take them? I need to get up and stretch anyways,â I looked at Takeda then back at the forms because they were my ticket to seeing Ukai again.
âBe my guest. Iâll be out of here soon as well, so be sure to take your things.â He told me in which I grabbed my bag and fast paced my way out of that room.
Man, I sure did love summer. The breeze, the birds chirping, the flowers. It was a beautiful sight, however that sight was going to have to wait for another day because I was on a mission.
As per usual, I walked to the gym and listened to the shoes moving around of the court. The doors were slightly ajar, which seemed to be the usual lately.
Peeking through, I noticed that the boys were playing their very bestâmore than usual. I do remember that the tournaments are coming up soon which would probably enhance their performance on regular practice matches.
However, all of that greatness flew out the window as soon as they noticed my presence from the doorway.
âUh⊠keep playing like normal boys,â I waved, trying not to draw a lot of attention to myself. However, before that could even happen Ukaiâs voice spoke out.
âActually, Daichi youâre in charge till Iâm back.â Ukai stated and motioned for me to follow him around the back of the gym.
A pool of nervousness flowed into my stomach as I walked behind him, curious to know of what he wants.
I almost bumped into him from how closely I was following behind and from how fast he stopped.
âUkai..?â I questioned, awaiting for his response as to why I was brought to the back side of the gym.
â(Y/n),â He turned around, peering down into my own nervous eyes with his almond brown eyes.
âI like you. As a twenty-six year old man, Iâm admitting that I have a crush on you. Do you accept my feelings?â His left arm in his pocket and his right scratching the back of his head was a sight.
I could feel the surprise on my face and from how âhigh schoolâ this confession felt.
I opened my mouth to reply and a noise came out that I didnât expect.
âWoahhhhh!!â and then I noticed the entire volleyball team watching us. Which means they mustâve heard Keishinâs confession to me.
âGet back inside now! You noisy kids.â Ukai grumbled, probably because they messed up his heartfelt confession.
A chuckle came from my lips and I tried to cover it when he looked at me.
âI do. I accept your confession.â I smiled brightly up at him, happy with the school girl feelings I was having at the moment.
âI havenât felt like this since high school, definitely takes me back.â He commented, looking away but he couldnât escape the small blush that I saw on his cheeks.
âSame here. I hope good things stem from this confession, Keishin.â I smiled up to him, calling him by his first name.
âAs do I, (Y/n).â

Drunk Confessions (Flufftober 2023 Day 14)
Pairing: keishin ukai x female reader
WC: 678
Warnings: nudity (nothing explicit they shower together), mdni
Summary: you take care of your drunk boyfriend after a night out
Note: ukai is a big ole softie in this so ooc i guess? idc i love him
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was late at night on a Saturday and you were finishing grading your studentsâ quizzes when your front doorbell rang, startling you. You carefully padded to the door, not expecting company, and you checked the peephole before furrowing your brows. You opened the door to reveal your boyfriend Keishin Ukai standing there with a lazy grin on his face.
âDid you forget your key again?â You asked, letting him into your shared home. He had gone out with his friends for a drink, and judging by his somewhat clumsy gait, he mightâve drank a bit too much.
When you got the door closed, he wrapped your arms around your middle, bringing you to his chest.
âI wanna cuddle,â He declared.
âLet me finish grading these last few papers and Iâm all yours,â You replied, causing him to huff.
âBut I missed you,â Ukai pouted at you.
You giggled, âYou saw me a few hours ago.â
âI always miss you,â He buried his nose into your hair and inhaled deeply, âYou smell so good.â
âWell you need a shower,â You pointed out, wrinkling your nose at the smell of sweat and alcohol.
âYeah, yeah,â He let go of you and took hold of your hand, âJoin me?â
You knew you probably werenât going to get that grading done tonight, not when he was looking at you with the most prettiest pout. He would probably keep pestering until you said yes.
âWell I guess someone has to make sure you donât drown,â You agreed with a teasing smile.
And so you led your boyfriend to the bathroom where you quickly got the shower started, finding a comfortable temperature that you both liked. He undressed himself and got in, and you followed suit. You had already taken a shower so you focused solely on getting Ukai cleaned up. You helped him wash his hair, massaging his scalp the way he liked and he left featherlight caresses to your skin as you worked.
It wasnât sexual, and you didnât feel an ounce of embarrassment as he gazed at you so lovingly, like you had hung the stars themselves.Â
âDid you have fun?â You asked as you took a soapy washcloth and ran it over his chest.
He sighed at the feeling and nodded his head.
âI wish you couldâve come,â He said, and you cracked a smile. He was always so open and soft with you when he got like this. It was endearing.
âIâll go next time,â You promised.
âPromise?â
âPinky promise,â You held out your pinky to him, and he quickly circled his own around it. He then brought your hand closer to his lips and pressed a kiss to the back of it.
After he rinsed and dried off, you two made your way to the bedroom. He slipped under the cover and patted the space next to him as an invitation to join, which you did so happily.
A comfortable silence fell over you both and for a moment you thought he had already fallen asleep. It wouldnât shock you, heâs been working hard balancing his time between you, work, and both volleyball team practices. It must be exhausting.Â
âI canât wait to marry you,â Ukai mumbled suddenly as he snuggled into you, causing you to blink in surprise.
âYou want to marry me?â You repeated curiously. You had been dating for a bit, but this is the first time heâs even introduced the idea of marriage to you.
âMhm,â He nodded and pressed a sleepy kiss to your neck, âMy pretty little wife.â
Your heart fluttered at the confession. Even though he was drunk, you couldnât help but feel like he meant it.
âAnd when we have kids, youâre gonna be the best mom.â
Butterflies erupted in your stomach at that. He wanted a family with you too? Before you could let your imagination run wild, your gaze softened as quiet snores finally fell from his lips, signaling he was asleep.
âI canât wait to marry you too, Keishin,â You whispered back.
And you meant it.
setting the past (part three)
masterlist taglist form
ukai x reader
a/n: yeah....i have no excuse for taking a month to upload the third part but i promise i will try to do more consistent updates!! anyways enjoy!!
When you walk into the High Gym you are immediately greeted by an uncomfortable humid feeling, Nekomata sensei, and the smell of sweaty boys who need to learn what deodorant is.Â
Youâre fighting the urge to gag but you keep your composure, maintaining a professional facade when deep down youâre freaking out at the thought of spending a week-long training camp with your ex.Â
Sure you could avoid talking to him, but realistically that would barely even work for a day with the amount of time the teams spend practicing, really only ever getting a break to eat and at night to shower (which they need) and sleep.Â
Nekomata sensei greets you with his warm smile when you walk in through the doors, you reach your hand out for a formal shake which he does too, his hand squeezing every blood vessel and youâre desperately trying to get your hand out of his grip.
âHow was the bus ride?â He asks, guiding you and your team through the hallways of the school, showing you to your respective rooms.Â
âIt was okay, it couldâve been betterâ you replied with a yawn as you walked up the stairs. âWhat about you?â
âIt wasnât that long, so it was okay.â He replies, stopping in front of a door and turning to your team. âThis will be your roomâ he tells them.
âThank you sensei!â They all say and bow in unison, before going inside their respective room. You hear them yelling and calling out for which bed they want to sleep on.
âYou donât mind sleeping with the managers do you?â Nekomata asks as he walks towards your room. âWe donât have enough rooms and I doubt youâd want to sleep with the other male coaches, or even your team so I put you in with the managers.â He stops in front of the door, you hear some giggling inside. Probably some teenage gossip.Â
âYeah of course, I donât want to be an inconvenience,â you said politely. Ideally you wouldnât want to be in a room filled with teenage girls because well, lets be frank itâs awkward. the age gap is there and you donât want them to not have any fun just because youâre there, you could honestly care less about what they talked about. But you obviously werenât going to get your own room.Â
You walk in the room, and the chatter slowly begins to die down. With a smile you wave at them, introducing yourself and they all bow in respect. It felt sort of awkward but then they began to introduce themselves to you. You recognized the two managers from Karasuno. The taller one with dark hair helped you set up, although the shorter blonde one seemed to be sort of skittish around you.Â
Once the team getâs settled in, you and your team walk to the gym, being guided by Nekomaâs captain who politely explained to you what would be happening at the camp and how the games work. As you walk in your eyes immediately find the fake blonde across the gym who smiles and waves at you, you politely wave back but no trace of a smile is on your face.Â
The whistle blows, and you notice Karasuno doing the penalty of the diving receives, but what you begin to notice is that the freaky first year duo isnât here. Your eyes scan the gym for any sign of them and they are nowhere to be found. You and your team make your way to the empty court and they begin their warm up stretches, led by your captain. Meanwhile you are forming a line up.
You begin to hear the squeaking of the shoes on court fill up, and youâre met with the Karasuno players who are breathing heavily and drinking water.Â
âLooks like weâre playing you next.â You turn around to see the familiar face you had been dreading (looking forward) to seeing again. You slightly curse yourself for not picking a different court, but better than to get this over with sooner rather than later.
âWhereâs your two first years? Notice they arenât hereâ you gesture towards the boys who are still taking a breather.
âOh, yea, they had to take supplementary exams.â He says embarrassed, a hand coming to rub the back of his neck. An habit he did in high school whenever he felt flighty embarrassed about something. Clearly old habits die hard.
You snort at what he says, finding the situation amusing, âlooks like the apple doesnât fall far from the tree.â You tease at him. Thinking about how he also had to take supplementary exams a few too many times in high school, where you had to help him study for.
âWhats that supposed to mean!â He yells a little too loud, causing Takeda to turn towards the two of you in confusion.
âYou know what I meanâ you say, walking back to your team who finished stretching and are now huddled around you, waiting for your instructions.
You decide to change up the line-up, trying out different people and see how they work together. Taking this training camp as an opportunity to try out new things. Skills, plays, techniques.Â
The new lineup that youâre testing consists of more of the first and second years, players Karasuno hadnât gone up against before. When they line up on the floor you notice the confused faces of the players, as well as Ukai and Takeda.Â
âHey Ukai?â Takeda starts.
âYes?â
âThose werenât the players that we went against last time right?â The teacher asks. Ukai takes a long look at you, jotting down notes in your notepad as you yell out reminders to the first and second years of your team.
âYeah, they arenât. Sheâs probably trying out a new team to see how they work. Itâs a risky move for her to do, considering they probably havenât practiced together yet and donât have a sense of chemistry.â Heâs confused a bit, but he also knows that youâre one whoâs not afraid to risk it and try out new things especially on the court. Thatâs how you got to play on the national team.
Your side was receiving first, so when the whistle blows the game begins.Â
The match was long and filled with a lot of mistakes, not the teamâs fault they just havenât had a chance to work together but towards the end they began to get the hang of it. The points remained close and they fought hard, but in the end your team was the one to do the lap of living receives while karausno finally got their break.Â
While theyâre busy doing their penalty, you gather their water bottles to go refill them. Not having a manager on the team meant that these are the kind of things you had to follow through on. Granted they could just do it themselves, but thatâs a waste of time for them when they could be doing something more productive that will make them better players.Â
With seven water bottles in your hand, and seven more waiting for you back in the gym, you walk to the water fountain outside the gym. As youâre walking, one of the bottles slip out of the grasp of your elbow, with a grown you turn around to where it rolled away and are met with Ukai holding it towards you.
âThis yours?â It was a dumb question to ask, it was just you and him in the hallway.
âNo itâs the fucking ghost that haunts this place.â You sarcastic reply âYes it is.â
âNeed help?â He strides over to you, trying to pick up a couple of bottles that you were holding.Â
âIâm good thanks,â you struggle to snatch back the bottle heâs holding.
âIâll help you.â Heâs noticed your struggle, and you were never one to ask directly for help. Choosing to struggle instead.
Thereâs a lot of tension, too much for just filling water bottles. Itâs silent, the only noise being the water running from the fountain. You hear Ukai chuckle next to you.
âWhat?â You ask in an annoyed tone
âNothing,â he chuckles again, âjust thinking.â
âAbout?â And he almost didnât have to say anything when he looked at you. Eyebrows raised as he guided you with his eyes to the water fountain. And it comes flooding back. This was kind of similar to the time Ukai confessed to you.
You were staying late after a practice, deciding to work on your jump serves and maybe also your jump floaters since no one else on the team wanted to stay back and get in some extra reps. This was probably why you guys never made it far in tournaments. It angered you when it seemed like you were the only one who cared.
You were grumbling to yourself angrily as you walked to the water fountain, filling up your water bottle. There wasnât a lot of people left in the school just a couple of kids lurking around after their clubs and the senior couple who always seemed to be making out in the janitors closet. It made you gag. you hear the sound of someone walking grow louder as they approached you. you look over to see your classmate (and crush) Ukai walking over with a red flush in his cheeks.
âHey Keishin, why are you here this lateâ you ask, screwing the top of your water bottle shut.
âOh, uh practice just endedâ he seemed shy, not very like him.
âNice! Same here, but Iâm staying to work on my serves. No one wanted to set for me.â
And Ukai, who was so determined to confess his feelings for you chickened out and decided that he can spend more time with you this way. âI can toss you some sets.â He blurts out.
Thereâs an awkward pause. âI mean, of course if you want me to, if you just want to practice on your serves by yourself-â
âIâd love that! Thanks!â You cut off his rambling and start to walk back to the gym, âYou coming or are you just gonna stand there?â
The two of you made your way back to the girls volleyball gym, you grabbed the cart of volleyballs and dragged it to the end of the court. Ukai stood by the net, ready for you to toss the ball to him. You grab the yellow and blue ball and toss it towards him and begin to run towards the net. He tosses it and you jump up. The toss was a little low for your personal liking but you slammed it down the court with power, the ball bouncing off the floor and going to hit the wall on the other side. When you land Ukai is staring at you in awe. He thinks he just fell in love with you even more.Â
âCould you toss it a bit higher?â You ask walking back and grabbing another ball from the cart. He nods with red cheeks which you just assume is from practice, oblivious to the feelings the boy had for you. And without thinking, his mouth moving faster than his mind Ukai blurts out.
âI like you.â
âHuh?â You stop in your track, ball still in your hand. Youâre very sure that the boy youâve had a crush on for a while now just confessed his feelings for you.
âUh.. I said that Iâll do that for you.â His hand comes up to rub the nape of his neck in embarrassment
âYeah, sure..â You toss the ball up again and before you begin to run to the net again you think about how youâre going to bring it up again.
You guys continue for about twenty more minutes, not talking about the words he accidentally let slip out. The whole time heâs praying that you didnât hear him and so far, to him, they seemed to be working. But he was not prepared for what was about to occur later.
The two of you walked home in silence, the air was tense as you tried to make conversation with him and he was being extremely mindful of his words. Only replying with short words and slight hums. You figured it was because he was nervous of what he said earlier and he was worried if you heard him.
The two of you stop in front of your house. âSo this is me.â You say looking at him, thumbs nervously fiddling with each other as you waited for him to say something, anything. You didnât want this time spent together to end.Â
âOkay, I think Iâll head back now.â This was the most he had spoken since getting out of the gym âGoodnightâ
âWait.â you say, he stops mid turn and he freezes, realizing that you are right next to him. It feels like time is moving slower when he feels your hand slightly hold onto his shoulder to stabilize yourself and you go on your toes to press a kiss to his cheek. âI like you too, goodnight.â You whisper and run back to your house before he can say anything and slam the front door shut. You bury your face in your hands as you slide down to the ground, in disbelief of what you just did and you squeal into your palms, which is soon stopped by your mother telling you to be quiet because your dad was asleep.
And outside your house Ukai stood frozen in his spot, fingers on his cheek touching the spot you just kissed and a smile so wide it bang to hurt after a while. He replayed the moment fifty times before he went to bed that night.
And now, eight years later the two of you stand at the water fountain, thinking about the memory. And as much as you despised him now you couldnât help but smile and giggle at how cringe the memory was. But it was something you cherished close to your heart for years.
Summary: Running into someone who was a key part in making high school hell for you wasn't what you expected when you settled into college Pairing: Ukai Keishin x black!fem!reader Warnings: friends to lovers (kinda), college!au, a handful of angst, reader kinda overworks herself, ukai is whipped for reader, one random bad encounter with an oc, reader was bullied in high school and is still holding onto that LMFAO, making out, grinding, tit sucking, little bit of marking, fingering, i think that's it, if there's anymore please tell me ya girl is tired Word Count: 21,351 (oops) A/N: Um, it's been a while LMFAO. I'm honestly not very proud of this fic, but I wanted to post it anyway as kinda of gateway to getting back into posting my fics cause I have four more (maybe five) that I wanna post. This was a part of my scrapped follower event (RIP). Reblogs are appreciated, and thank you for reading if you do read this trash!
The first week of classes always makes you anxious. This semester, youâve got some classes in buildings youâve never been in, and you didnât get a chance to walk the campus to find them because you moved in so late. You donât know why the apartment you moved into decided that moving in the weekend before school started was a great idea.
Luckily, you found your first class with ease, a simple elective that you need to graduate, and you hope that the coursework wonât be too hard. You got here early just in case you had trouble finding it, so you scroll on your phone to pass the time as the class fills in. None of your friends are in this class, so youâre not waiting on anybody.
By the size of the room, it doesnât look like the class size will be that big, so you hope that the people that are taking it with you are bearable. No one is sitting at the desks around you, and that doesnât bother you, but what does bother you is that someone sits right next to you when there were other seats open.Â
You try to keep the sigh you make as silent as possible, not even giving the person a look as you keep your attention on your phone. You put it away when the professor walks in, pulling your laptop out of your backpack as she introduces herself. âMake sure you guys introduce yourselves to the people around you because youâre going to be working with them a lot this semester.â
You try to hide your annoyance, putting on a nice smile before you turn to the person thatâs sitting next to you, but it drops the moment your eyes land on them. You feel something run through you that you canât explain, grabbing the corner of your desk in a tight grip.Â
âYou look like youâve just seen a ghost,â he laughs, but thereâs not a single part of you that finds any of this funny.
âWhat the fuck are you doing here?â you whisper, thankful that youâre in the back of the classroom so no one can eavesdrop.Â
âWhy so hostile? I thought we were friends.â
âWeâre far from that Ukai, and you know it.â His name feels heavy, foreign on your tongue, something you hadnât even thought about saying in months.Â
Ukai Keishin. Someone that youâd never thought youâd see again. Someone whoâs been haunting your past for way longer than youâd like. You thought that college would give you the chance to get away from him, and yeah sure, you picked a relatively small college, but out of all of the colleges, he picks this one? You canât help but look over him, seeing how much heâs changed; how much heâs grown. He is not the same boy that youâve known for so long, and you willfully ignore that part of you that wants to examine that even further.
âYouâve always been so mean to me,â he whines playfully, which makes you roll your eyes because thatâs rich coming from him.Â
âAnswer my question,â you say, hoping that you get an answer from him, and then you just go back to ignoring him.Â
âSame reason you are, no?â
âWhy this one, specifically?â you press, looking around with your eyes for somewhere else you can sit the next time you have this class.
âYou can ease up, alright? Iâm being totally honest when I say I had no idea you would be here too.â It doesnât sound like heâs lying, looking over his face before finding something else to do. You donât bother to continue the conversation; thankfully, the professor gets the class's attention again.Â
She asks if anyone wants to share something about the person that they introduce themselves to, and a few people raise their hands. You sigh slowly, resting your chin on your hand after you put your elbow on the desk. After a few people have shared, she goes over the syllabus, but youâre not paying attention.
Even though youâre not looking at him, the fact that you now know heâs sitting next to you, is the only thing you can focus on. Youâve never wished for a class to be over so fast in your life so that you can just get out of here without having to speak to him again. You sigh a bit, feeling like heâs watching you, but you refuse to look over at him to confirm that.
The longer your professor talks, the more uneasy you start to feel. You knew that the class wouldnât last the whole time today since it was the first class, but you swear that time has slowed down. You see Ukai move a little bit closer to you in the corner of your eye, and you try to act like you didnât see it.
âWhenâs your next class?â you hear him whisper, but you donât answer, only responding with a quick side-eye. You turn your attention back to the front, and you sigh in annoyance, but thatâs not enough to deter him because you feel a nudge at your desk.Â
âLeave me alone,â you whisper, keeping your eyes forward.
âI will when you tell me.â You ball your hand into a fist, sighing again because youâre pretty sure heâs not going to mess with you anymore; figuring he just said that to get a rise out of you. You shake your head softly. Itâs too fucking early for this. Sheâs starting to get toward the end of the syllabus, so you decide to order some food since you skipped breakfast this morning. You leave your phone on your desk while you put your laptop back into your bag, and when your eyes land on your desk, your phone is gone.
Your head immediately turns to the culprit, and heâs looking at the screen, but you canât tell what heâs doing. âAre you a child?!â you grit, glancing at the front of the room before you try to reach for it. Heâs quick to move away from you so that you canât reach your phone, and right as your professor dismisses the class, he gives you your phone back.
You frown, thinking that he was going to put up more of a fight, and you notice how he steps closer to you when the other students are leaving the classroom, but thereâs nowhere for you to move to. When the last student is out, you quickly make your way out, sliding past him when he puts distance between the two of you.Â
You have a class in about another hour, so you order your food before you check to see if he did anything to your phone. Nothing looks different, and he cleared your apps, covering his tracks, so youâd have to do some digging to figure out what he did. You donât bother to find it right now, trying not to concentrate on the fact that you will now be in the same room as Ukai.
You cross your fingers that heâll drop the class, and you could also do that, but thereâs no way youâd go through with it. You had left high school with high hopes that you would never see him again, but itâs just your shitty luck that you do. He made your life a living hell before college, and you were hoping that you could start fresh, leaving all of that behind.
But how long has he been here? Youâve been here a year already and you had no clue that he was here. And even if he was, your mom wouldâve probably told you about it since she stays in touch with some of the other parents of your peers from high school. So, why were you unpleasantly surprised today?
You check to see how close your food is to being ready when you get a text. Your walking slows when you see Ukaiâs name pop up, and seeing it allows you to figure out what he was doing with your phone. You swipe it away, shaking your head before you pick up the pace, but you falter when you see that heâs calling you.
You stop, stepping off to the side so that youâre not in the way of other people before you answer it. âGod, what do you want?â you groan.Â
âItâs only ten-thirty in the morning, and youâre already this grumpy?â he chuckles, and you ball your hand into a fist, taking a deep breath to try and calm yourself.
âIâm blocking you,â you say.
âAw, you donât mean that, do you?â You can hear his voice more precisely this time, but it doesnât sound like itâs coming through the phone. You turn around to see him walking up to you with a smirk on his face, phone by his ear.
You hang up the phone, sighing heavily. âWhat do you want?â you repeat, way past annoyed right now, and when you look back at him, you see something flash in his eyes, but itâs gone before you can figure out what it was.
âJust give me fifteen minutes, okay?â Heâs lost that teasing tone in his voice, and you chew on your lip softly while you contemplate before you finally give in.Â
âFine. Iâm heading to the student union to get some food,â you tell him, hoping that this will finally get him to leave you alone. You start walking, and he happily steps in rhythm right next to you. Itâs pretty silent for the first couple of feet you walk, and you expected him to continue the conversation, but he stays silent.
You definitely donât have anything you want to say to him; well, in public at least. Your mind is racing as you walk, and youâre starting to wish that he would talk to you so that you can shut your thoughts out. You canât help but think about how he treated you when you were younger, and how most of the time he was the aid in your bullying.Â
As far as youâre concerned, you didnât think he liked you, or either he loved to make your life a living hell, and his actions justified that. But what heâs doing now is completely baffling to you. You canât help but scoff, rubbing over your head as you smile. Who knew that your day could be turned upside down in a matter of minutes?
âWhatâs so funny?â he asks, making you realize that you accidentally reacted to your thoughts out loud.
âSo, did you transfer, orâŠ?â you say, not wanting to answer the question.
âNah, I was here last school year,â he answers, shoving his hands in his pockets. You nod softly, looking at the ground. The school isnât that small, so you may have just never run into him. But on the other hand, the school isnât massive either, so youâre a bit surprised that you havenât seen him.
âIâm assuming youâre majoring in something dealing with agriculture?â you ask next, meeting his gaze, and the smile he gives you makes you feel too many things, and you donât like it.
âHorticulture, specifically, yeah,â he tells you with a nod, looking at the ground before he looks at you again. âNow, howâd you know that?â
You choke a bit, clearing your throat as you look off to the side. âI mean, who didnât? Farming was all you talked about in high school,â you try. Itâs a horrible attempt at taking the heat off the fact that you know what heâs interested in, and you know thereâs no way that it worked.
âYou were listening to me in high school?â he questions, and the teasing tone in his voice increases your urge to punch him in the stomach.
âItâs not like I had a choice, you and your friends talked so fucking loud all of the time.â That you say with confidence because thereâs a ton of truth to that statement. Heâs always been obnoxious, but with his friends, it seemed like it would always multiply. Not seeing him was the best part of your high school career.Â
He laughs a bit in surprise before he nods. âOkay, Iâll give you that.â One of the bigger classes mustâve gotten out because there are a lot more people around as you walk, forcing Ukai to move closer to you. You try to shy away, but thereâs no way you can move without falling off the sidewalk, so you just bite your tongue when you feel his shoulder brush against yours.
âAlright, so howâs your schedule looking this semester?â
âHectic to say the least,â you chuckle, sighing a bit as you think about your future workload. âSo, I hope this class will be the least of my worries.â
âAh, youâll be fine, just donât stress too much about it.â
You scoff. âYeah, thatâs a lot easier said than done.â When you get to the student union, he holds the door open for you, and you thank him softly, picking up your pace a little, but he falls in time with your steps.
You quickly glance at your phone, seeing that your order is ready, and youâre grateful for an excuse to get away from him. âUh, well, my food is ready, so I should probably go.â You try to turn around as fast as you can, but he must notice that youâre trying to leave because he starts talking right when you finish.
âDo you have any other classes today?â he says quickly, and you stop, trying to hide your heavy sigh.
âNo,â you lie, but that isnât enough to let him drop the conversation because he speaks up again, and you wonder why you havenât just walked away yet.Â
âYou mind if I join you while you eat?â That sounds like a horrible idea, so you promptly come up with an excuse that thankfully doesnât sound forced.
âOh, well, Iâm probably gonna go sit in the library,â you say. âWanna make sure Iâm not gonna fall behind since I already have homework.â You feel like you might be playing it up too much, especially when he squints after he hears your words.
âIf I didnât know better, Iâd say it sounds like youâre trying to avoid me,â he infers, and you start to panic a little bit, trying to think about how to respond.
âIâm not. I promise.â You chuckle, waving your hand out right as you feel your phone vibrate with a text. âIâve already made plans to meet up with my friend, soâŠâ Perfect timing, you think in your head because if that text hadnât come through, you donât know what you wouldâve said.
He smirks at you before he nods his head. âOkay, then. Iâll let you go.â You almost curl your body forward slightly in relief, but you hold that urge back. âIt was good to see you again.â
âYeah,â you say tersely, giving him a tight smile. You awkwardly wave before you finally turn around and walk away to get your food. You donât walk fast, but you do try to get out of there as soon as you can because you can feel his eyes on you without even having to look.Â
It makes you feel a certain type of way that you donât even want to try and tackle, so you hightail it out of there. Once you get outside, you feel like you can breathe again, but now you donât know where to go. Itâs not like you could sit inside the student union after lying to Keishin, so you look at the time on your phone to try and figure out where would be the best place to go.
Based on the time, thereâs a building you could sit in and not have to worry about a lot of people being there, so you head on over there. You slide your headphones onto your head from around your neck and let the music take over the thoughts that you donât want to hear right now as you walk.
âItâs only the beginning of the week, and you already look like you want it to be over.â Your forehead is pillowed by your forearms on the table, and you lift your head to set your chin on your arms.Â
âI had a terrible surprise this morning,â you answer solemnly. You didnât lie to Ukai entirely. You were meeting up with your friend, but it was after your second class, and you werenât meeting her in the library. So, it was just a tiny lie. Luckily, you didnât run into him anymore today, but you hate how you were on high alert the whole day.
Youâve never been more aware of your surroundings, looking around when you leave the building, and making sure youâre continuously looking around as you walked to your car. You could say that youâre being dramatic, but another part of you just wants to consider it âkeeping your peaceâ since seeing Ukai again brought back painful memories.
âWhat? You tripped in front of a lot of people or what?â You sit up, sighing as you lean back in your chair.
âI saw someone from high school that I thought Iâd never see again.â Your friend flips through her textbook, already having homework, as she shrugs.
âSo? Whatâs so bad about that?â
âHe made my life a living hell.â Your friend perks up at that, lifting her head to give you her full attention.
âOh, itâs a âheâ? Is he cute?â You give her a plain look, which makes her chuckle a little. âOkay, so I need a backstory. Weâve been friends for like a year, and I donât think Iâve heard about this guy.â
And thereâs a reason for that. You would much rather leave painful memories behind, but your luck says otherwise. âWell, I would prefer to not talk about a guy that made my life harder than needed,â you start with a sigh, âbut today, he acted like everything from high school never happened.â
âWhat does that mean?â
âHe was nice to me.â You canât help but scoff a little, laughing because it sounds like the bare minimum, but he was nowhere near acting like that back then. âI thought he hated me or something.âÂ
âWhy do you think he hates you?â
âBecause he messed with me non-stop! He and his friends humiliated me as much as they could.â
âAre you sure that it was him that was messing with you or was he just in the background?â That makes you freeze, and you slump a little at her question. If you think about it, heâs never physically done or said anything to you, but the fact that he was there, and didnât do anything to stop it was enough to convince you that he didnât like you. And it was enough for you to not like him.Â
âWhat did he say to you today?â your friend asks after youâre silent for a while.Â
âHe put his number in my phone, and he walked with me to the student union. He said he thought we were friends.â You rub your hand over your face, resting your top half on the table again. Thereâs so much confusion on a Monday, and youâve barely been to all of your classes.Â
âIt doesnât sound like he hates you to me.â
âYeah, I know. Itâs making me sound like Iâm fucking crazy,â you say lightly, looking at whatâs playing on the TV behind your friend. âIâm pretty sure heâs just trying to butter me up or something to try and make himself look good. And then heâll make my life miserable again once I let him back in.â
âYouâve always been so dramatic,â your friend laughs. âIâm telling you right now, that I donât think thatâs the case. He definitely wouldâve acted differently, right? Did he ever talk to you in high school?â
âBarely. I caught him staring at me all the fucking time. He sometimes tried to talk to me after his friends did something to me, but I never let him speak.â Your friend is a hundred percent invested in this story, all of her attention on you instead of her textbooks.
âOkay, give me a couple of instances where you were messed with,â she tells you after she laughs at your answer. You take a deep breath, preparing yourself to re-live through some of those moments.Â
You tell her about the time they constantly tripped you while you were walking to your seat in a class you shared with him. You tell her about the time they started rumors about you multiple times. Now, that youâre older, they werenât that bad, but just the thought of people that stuff about you made you hate half of high school.Â
You told her about all the times you heard them whispering, knowing that they were talking about you and feeling tears welling up in your eyes at the snickers you would hear behind you. You stop soon after, biting your lip to calm yourself before your friend asks where was Ukai in all of this.
âHe never said anything, and like I said, he was always staring at me whenever I looked at him.â You tell her about the times he would come up to you after class, usually after the bullying, but you didnât give him a chance to speak, darting out of the room before he could even get your name out.
âMaybe he was trying to apologize,â she offers. âIâm not saying that Iâm condoning him sitting there and letting it happen, but I donât think he hates you like you say he does. At all.â
âWell, he had a lot of time to apologize, and he never did.â Yeah, youâre still hung up about it, and you donât care if you sound like a child. He was a bystander and still dared to call them his friends and hang out with them after what they did to you.
âWell, Iâm not gonna tell you what to do, but if you wanna hear him out, I donât blame you. But if you donât, then you could always drop the class and find another one to fill your requirement,â she says. âBut, I know youâre not gonna drop, so itâs up to you,â she tacks on, making you frown at her. She smiles at you before she goes back to your textbook, and you canât help but copy it, standing up and making your way toward your room, but not without playfully shoving her first.
You spend the rest of your night torn between completely ignoring your friend or taking her advice. Not having homework is a good and bad thing because you donât have anything to distract you from your thoughts. You kill the time by watching a show that youâve already seen a bunch of times, scrolling through your phone while you sit on your bed.Â
Your friend has a point, but thereâs a part of you thatâs spent a while trying to lock that part of your life away, and you donât want to go through the trouble of opening it back up again. You donât know if youâll be able to handle it when everything youâve suppressed comes flying out.
When your eyelids start to feel heavy, you decide to call it a night, hoping in the shower before you do your face routine. When you get in bed, you toss and turn for a little bit, hoping that your dilemma stays out of your dreams.
Wednesday rolls around faster than youâd like, and you find yourself in that class once again in the same seat you picked on the first day of classes. You keep your headphones on as you get comfortable, having about fifteen minutes before class starts. You can feel yourself getting antsier as the class time approaches, wondering if Ukai dropped the class.Â
You shrug off your thoughts, questioning in your head why youâre so worried about him in the first place. It doesnât do much though because you feel your heart start racing when you can see someone sitting next to you in your peripheral. You donât look, keeping your eyes on your phone, but you decide to switch your attention to your laptop.
You think the professor talks starting, so you turn your headphones off, sliding them off your head. âGood morning.â You hear it almost as soon as you take the headphones off your ears, and it nearly scares you.
âMorning,â you reply softly, glancing to the side to confirm that Ukai is sitting next to you.Â
âHow was your day yesterday?â he asks, and you shake your head a little as you shrug.
âUh, it was pretty okay, I guess. Itâll be more hectic next week once my labs start,â you tell him, and it feels weird to be making small talk with him. Your friendâs words echo in your head as you ask him about his day yesterday.
âMine was pretty okay, too. You know the first week of classes is always dragging.â You give him a nod, deciding to fully turn your head to look at him, but when you see that heâs staring right at you, you quickly look back at your laptop.Â
Your professor starts talking, so you attempt to pay attention even though youâre more nervous than youâd like to be. Right as she finishes the discussion about what youâre going to be doing today, someone walks into the class.Â
No one notices because theyâve all started talking to themselves in the groups that theyâre in, and since youâre sitting in the back right by the door, she catches your attention. You look over her, commenting in your head how pretty her outfit is, but then Ukai quickly averts your attention to him.
âYou did the readings, right?â he asks, and you squint at him.
âDid you?â you say right back, and he smiles a little which makes you think about how youâre feeling about that.Â
âI did,â he answers confidently before giving you a synopsis of the reading much to your surprise. âI canât slack off like I did in high school, so Iâm trying to start early so I donât get behind.â His words leave you a little stunned, but before you can even try and form a response, the girl who walked in late walks up to the both of you.
âYou donât mind if I work with you, do you?â Sheâs only looking at Ukai when she asks, and she mustâve walked up to the professor and had her fill her in on what youâre doing.
âWell, Iâm working with her already, so,â he answers, and you make a face when it looks like disdain appears across her face.
âOh, well, the professor said I could join a group,â she responds, and you can feel the air taking an awkward turn, but you have no idea what to say. Ukai sighs a little, glancing at you before he looks at her.
âSure, one more doesnât hurt.â She smiles widely before moving one of the desks closer to him before sitting down, and he leans towards you, which makes you lean back a little. âAre you okay with this?â he whispers.
âUh, yeah, itâs fine,â you mumble back quickly, overwhelmed by how close he is. It doesnât look like your words convinced him, but sheâs talking to him again, so he doesnât get a chance to make sure. While heâs talking to her, filling her in on what youâre supposed to be doing, you pull up your annotations from the readings you had to read for this class.
For about ten minutes, absolutely no work gets done because every time Ukai tries to talk to you, she interrupts with questions that have nothing to do with the work. And sheâs only talking to him. You have an annoyed look on your face as you stare at your empty word document. Ukai seems to be just annoyed as you, and you truly donât know why sheâs acting like this. You donât even know her.
You figure that youâre probably not going to get any work done, and by the conversations youâre overhearing from the other groups, theyâre not necessarily talking about their group work either. It seems like thereâs a lull in the conversation between her and Ukai, so you speak up.
âI like your outfit,â you say, giving her a small smile.
âI didnât ask.âÂ
Keishin freezes, his fingers no longer typing on his keyboard, and your face drops. Sheâs giving you an ugly look, and youâre about to turn and face her, but he stops you by asking you some questions about the work. Thereâs a look in his eyes that you canât decipher, but after that, he barely pays attention to her.
Every time she tries to talk, he talks over her, and itâs starting to get to you. âUkai, itâs okay,â you say softly, and you donât need to say it that loud because heâs practically in your space, moving over whenever she moved closer to him.
âNo, itâs not,â he grits, and you never knew that fifty minutes could be so long. You managed to get some of your document filled, and you start to pack your stuff up once there are about five minutes left in class. You wish you could be out of here sooner. The girl continues to talk now that Ukai isnât occupied anymore, and you canât even bring yourself to look their way.
You feel a pit forming in your stomach at what she said to you, her attitude not sitting right with you, but you donât want to say anything to her. The other part of you just wants to get out of her, and you refuse to let her ruin the rest of your day. Your professor lets the class out a little early once she sees that everyone is finishing up, and since your backpack is already packed, you quickly stand.
Ukai stands up almost at the same time you do, way faster. âSo, I was wonderingââ The girl is standing as well, and sheâs still talking to him.Â
âI didnât ask.â You choke a bit at Ukaiâs sudden response, turning your head to look away as you try to hold in your laugh, but not before you can catch her stunned reaction. You jump when he grabs your hand and pulls you out of the room ahead of everyone else. You have to walk a little faster to keep up with him, and he doesnât let your hand go until youâre both well away from the building.
âAre you okay?â he asks, slowing his steps.
âYeah, Iâm fine. Why wouldnât I be okay?â you say. âIâm a little pissed, yeah, but Iâm not stressed over it.â He doesnât say anything in return, and the silence allows you to remember that heâs still holding your hand.Â
You feel your face grow warm as you slightly tug, and he feels it, letting go of your hand immediately. âSorry about that,â he chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck.
âDonât worry about it,â you say lightly even though your body isnât taking it so lightly. You grab your hand gently, rubbing over your palm as if youâre missing the feeling of his hand against yours.Â
âSo, it looks like youâre done for the day,â he says without missing a beat, and you frown a bit before you quickly remember that you lied to him about your schedule.Â
âOh, yeah,â you respond slowly, wondering if you want to come clean about it. âI would be, but I do have another class in an hour. My professor canceled the class on Monday for some reason.â You donât know why youâre telling him this, and thereâs a small part of you that regrets it the moment you do.
âReally? What class is it?â
âUh, quantitative chemistry.â
âOof, sounds hard,â he grimaces, and you chuckle a little, shaking your head a little.
âI donât think itâll be that bad, hopefully. Math wasnât always my best, but itâs stuff I already learned so I should be fine.â You try not to focus on how close he is to you as you walk, and you know thereâs no reason for him to be since the foot traffic isnât bad. âDo you have anything else today?â you ask, trying to use conversation as a way to keep your thoughts quiet.
âYeah, I have a stats class in an hour as well,â he sighs.
âGod, I do not miss taking that. Iâm glad Iâm done with it.â
âLucky you then,â he jests, nudging you with his shoulder. âI absolutely suck at math, so this wonât be fun.â You open your mouth getting ready to say that you remember that from high school, but you quickly shut it. You donât need to expose yourself anymore.
âIt might not be that bad, youâre given the formulas on the exams anyways.âÂ
âWell, if I ever have trouble, I know to call you.â
âRight,â you mumble. The conversation thankfully stops without being awkward, but you donât want to listen to your head right now. Thereâs so much going on, your brain is trying to process too much, so you try to think about where youâre going to kill time until your next class.
âAre you gonna be getting food again today?â he asks after a while even though youâre not walking anywhere near the student union. Which makes you notice that heâs just been walking wherever youâre going.
You shake your head. âNo, I ate a pretty big breakfast today, so Iâm just gonna find somewhere to sit while I wait for my next class.âÂ
âYou mind if I join you?â You hesitate for a split second before you answer.
âIf you want to,â you say, leaving it at that as you try not to reveal how youâre feeling. But hell, you donât even know how youâre feeling about this.
You find a place outside since itâs nice and not too hot to sit at, and itâs an equal distance for both of you from your next class. Since you already have assignments due for your classes, you try to get a headstart on it, so you pull out your notes and laptop to get started on that.Â
Ukai sits across from you, and it takes everything in you to not look at him. Heâs on his phone for a while that you can see from your peripheral, but then heâs on his laptop soon after that. You get into your work, finding a groove, and youâre almost done with most of it when you hear someone call Ukaiâs name.
Both of you look up, and your heart drops when your eyes land on the owner of the voice. You quickly put your head down, hoping that your undivided attention on your laptop screen will cause him not to notice you. You swallow heavily as they greet each other, and you look at the time to see that you still have twenty minutes until your class starts.
You try to pack up some of your stuff since youâre done anyway, but then you feel your body run cold when Ukai says your name. âYou remember her, right?â You hesitantly look up, and you can feel all of the emotions that youâve been trying to suppress bubble over.
The guy says your name again in disbelief before recognition goes across his face. âWow, it is you! I almost didnât recognize you,â he laughs, and you wait for it. âYou arenât as ugly as you were in high school.â There it is.
You barely smile at him because thereâs no way you can laugh that off, and you see Ukai frown deeply, turning to the guy, you start to close your laptop. âIâm gonna head out,â you start, and Ukai tries to stop you, but the guy wonât shut up about how much youâve changed, calling you the names he called you back then, and you can feel yourself starting to break down.
âDonât leave,â Ukai says, catching your hand before you can put your stuff in your bag.Â
âYeah, we have to stay and catch up,â the guy buds in, and you know there isnât a smile on your face when you look at him.
âYou can go,â Ukai orders, keeping his hand on yours, and this situation is so awkward and embarrassing, but your body is frozen at Keishinâs words. The guy tries to laugh Ukaiâs sudden change in attitude off, not even the slightest put off by him.Â
âCome on, man. This is hilarious, no? You remember how much sheââ
âI remember how much I wanted to beat your ass,â Ukai states. âNow leave before I do.â You try to keep your breathing even as you look around. No one was around to hear the conversation, but some people are looking as they walk to wherever they are going. The guy stops smiling, looking at Ukai like heâs grown a second head.
âAre you serious right now?â the guy questions incredulously as he looks at you. âDonât tell me youâre feeling this bitchââ
Ukai is on his feet in a split second, grabbing the guy by the collar of his shirt. âYou have two seconds to move your ass before I do it for you. You apologize to her now, and I never want to see your face again.âÂ
Your body is shaking so badly, you feel like you could cry, and you flinch a little when Ukai tightens his grip on his shirt, shaking him just a little. âIâm not playing around here. Apologize. Now.â
âUkai, itâs okay, he doesnât have toââ you try, but he doesnât even look at you, pulling the guy closer to him and nearly off of his feet.
âYes. He. Does.âÂ
âOkay, okay. Just chill,â the guy pleads, and Keishin lets his grip loose just a little, but he doesnât let him go. âIâm sorry, okay?â At this point, you donât care for his half-assed apology, but the high school part of you is feeling a rush from hearing him say those words.
âMean it,â he says angrily, and the guy turns to look at you.
âIâm sorry,â he says, but that doesnât satisfy Ukai.
âFor?â
âFor messing with you. Iâm sorry for what I just said. I was just fucking around in high school, and I didnât mean any of the things I said. I promise,â he rushes out, and youâd never thought youâd hear that from him. Youâre so overwhelmed with emotions right now, that you donât say anything, but Ukai lets the guy go with a rough shove.
âGet the fuck out of my face,â he hisses, and the guy fixes his shirt, giving Ukai a searing glare, but he walks off without another word. You take a deep breath when he disappears out of sight, and you jump a bit when Ukaiâs next to you. âAre you okay? Iâm sorry you had to see that.â
âIâm fine,â you breathe, finally looking at Ukai, and you donât think youâve ever seen him look so worried. His hands are on your shoulders, and you give him a smile to try and lessen his worries. âIâm fine. I just thought Iâd never see him again,â you say with an airy chuckle, and when you start to relax, he lets his hands slide off of you, but youâre still a little frazzled to notice how long they take to leave your body.
Ukai goes to say something, but you check the time on your phone to see that you donât have a lot of time until your next class. âOh, we have to go,â you say softly, packing up your stuff. Ukai stands there, watching you, and you turn to him once you have your backpack on your shoulders. âThanks, Ukai,â you say softly.
âOf course,â he says just as softly, and you return the smile he gives you. âYou go on ahead, Iâll see you on Friday.â You nod, walking off, and he watches you go. He sighs as he starts to pack his stuff up. Thereâs so much he wanted to say to you.Â
Maybe next time.
Youïżœïżœïżœre a month into the semester, and your work is already stockpiling. You try to get ahead of it, but it always ends up catching up to you. Youâve piled up on your classes this semester, and youâre starting to hate your past self for doing that. The class you have with Ukai is the only class where the workload isnât the heaviest, but it still takes a hefty amount of time to do the work for it.Â
The readings that you have to read before class have gotten longer, and you just barely have enough time to read them. Youâre dragging ass when you get to class on Monday, feeling like you might fall asleep at your desk when you sit down. Youâre surprised you managed to even remember bringing all of your stuff for class today, and Ukai sits next to you as you slowly take your stuff out of your bag.
âRough night?â you barely hear him ask, and it takes you a while to blink, your eyelids feeling like theyâre tied to weights.
âSomething like that,â you whisper before you rub your eyes. âMy workload is a bitch especially with midterms coming up, so Iâm not getting a lot of sleep.â You yawn as you rest your chin on your hand. He doesnât say anything else, and the professor starts talking, but he keeps his eyes on you while she does.
You rub your hand over your face, even drinking water to try and keep yourself awake. You feel like you might cry when she announces that youâre going to be presenting in front of the class about the readings youâre doing. Ukai watches you make a face at her words, and then he notices that youâre still working on things all the while.Â
But when the class breaks off to do work, you immediately start talking about the readings that you had to do for the class. He wants to ask about how youâre doing, but he doesnât think heâll get the chance. His concern is only fueled when you keep having to stop to think about what youâre saying. He ends up doing most of the work, which he doesnât mind, and it seems like class flies by in a blur.Â
You and Ukai will have to present at least twice this semester, the first presentation being next week, which means youâll have to get started on your papers now. When class is dismissed, he waits for you to pack up your stuff, and he can tell that youâre really tired especially since youâre not walking as fast as you usually do.
âSo, are you going to be free any time to work on this?â he asks you once youâre both walking outside.Â
âItâs gonna have to be at the end of the week. Iâm gonna try and get as much work done as I can so I can focus on this. Sorry.â
âYou donât have to apologize, I can make it work.â
âWe can try and start on it now while we wait for our next class if you want to,â you offer, and you both find a spot inside this time since it looks like it might rain, which doesnât help your grogginess. Ukai sits next to you, but youâre too tired to freak out about it. He starts talking about the readings that you have to do, and what you could potentially write about in your paper.
You donât know if itâs because youâve chosen a pretty quiet spot, or if itâs his voice, but something starts to put you to sleep. Ukai can see your head bobbing every time you doze off, but he doesnât say anything, continuing to talk about the material, and while you start to doze off again, he lets his hand gently guide it to his shoulder.
You donât protest, going without a fight, and he looks down at you, only stopping when he realizes heâs been staring at you too long. He continues working, making sure not to move his arm too much so that he doesnât wake you, and he opens up another document, typing up stuff that you could add to your paper.
When itâs almost time for you to go, he hesitates to wake you up because you look like you need sleep, but he knows youâd kill him for not waking you up in time for class. He gently shakes you, and you wake up with a start, looking around. You calm down instantly when you look at Ukai, looking at his laptop screen before sighing.
âGod, Ukai, I am so sorry,â you say, rubbing your head. âI didnât mean to fall asleep on you.â
âDonât sweat it. I wrote down some ideas for you to start with,â he tells you. âIâll send it to you later. You gotta get to class.âÂ
âThank you so much. I owe you.â You donât have to put your stuff up since you didnât even get the chance to take anything out, and you stand up, stretching when you stand up fully. You check the time on your phone, putting a little pep in your step since you feel a bit energized as you start to walk away. You turn to wave to him as you leave, and the smile doesnât leave his face even when youâre gone.
âShouldâve taken a picture,â he mumbles.
~
When you get home, you all but drag yourself to your room. You change your clothes before flopping down on your bed, and sleep is calling your name, but if you go to sleep now, youâll mess up your schedule. You lift yourself when you hear a knock on your door while you let your roommate know that she can come in.
âAre you getting enough sleep?â she questions the moment she walks in. She sits down at your desk with a feigned stern look, already knowing the answer.
âIâll try tonight. I just have a lot of work this week. And now I have to write a paper to present with Ukai next week,â you groan, and your roommate raises her eyebrows.
âUkai? Havenât heard his name since you mentioned him,â she says. âHowâs all that going?â
âItâs going, I guess. I donât know what you want me to say.â You think about how your head was on his shoulder earlier, and you feel your face start to warm, and your roommate notices the change.
âYeah, okay. Youâre not fooling me. Whatâs up with you two?â
âNothing!â you exclaim. âI think,â you add softly, ultimately sighing in defeat, and your roommate moves to sit next to you on your bed, very invested. âI mean, weâve been hanging on a lot during our breaks in-between classes. And I fell asleep on his shoulder today,â you say, grimacing at the thought.
âSo, what? Do you like him or something?â
âI donât know,â you answer honestly. âI kinda had a crush on him in high school, but it was mostly bittersweet because he was always there whenever I was being messed with. Speaking of, I saw one of the guys a while ago.â
âWhat?â your roommate says, her mouth open. âWhat happened?â
âUkai threatened him and had him apologize to me,â you laugh which you can do now that the situation is behind you.
âShit, girl, you donât think heâs into you too, right?â
âNo,â you respond quickly with a shake of your head. âThereâs no way he likes me now or back then. It doesnât make any sense.â
âDonât say that,â she tries. âI feel like there might be something there.â
âMaybe,â you say reluctantly. âI just donât wanna read anything wrong.â
âI donât think you are. I feel like he might have a thing for you. He has had a thing for you.â You try not to fall too deep into her words, but with the way heâs been acting, it doesnât sound totally out of the ordinary. âJust keep me updated, Iâm invested in your love story now.â
âDonât call it that!â You shove her playfully as both of you laugh, and she gets off your bed, heading to the door.Â
âDonât stay up too late, okay?â she says before she closes the door. Once it gets quiet, you begrudgingly decide to start on your work, so you move to your desk, starting on your chemistry homework since thatâs whatâs taking you so much time.
You play some music to help you focus, and you try to get into study mode. Which takes you a lot longer than it should because your head is focused on a certain someone. You groan softly as you let your head fall on your desk. Maybe if you think about it now, itâll help you focus.
You definitely had some feelings for Ukai back then. You thought he was really cute, he actually is still very much cute. He looks even better now than he did in high school. But you were never confident enough to even start a conversation with him all through high school. You shared the same classes, but you just kept it to yourself. Not even your high school friends knew how you felt about him.
But then those feelings started to fade a bit when the guys he hung out with started to bully you. You mostly felt anger at first, but then it turned to hurt and a little bit of betrayal because the guy you liked wasnât doing anything to stop what was happening. And then you hated yourself for being a damsel in distress. Once the bullying seemed to die down by the time you were in your last year, you were âoverâ him.
You didnât have nearly as many feelings for him, they were still there, but you sort of suppressed them. And then you attempted to get rid of them when you got to college because you were under the notion that you would never see him again. But of course, you had to run into him, and now those feelings are starting to bloom again.
You never once thought that he reciprocated his feelings, and you never talked to him because it seemed like the only time he was going to say something to you was after his friends did, and the last thing you wanted to do was talk to him.Â
âOkay, thatâs enough,â you say to yourself, picking up your pencil and trying to get back to where you were. Right as youâre about to start another problem, your phone stops playing music and then your ringtone follows. You pick it up to see whoâs calling, and you feel your heart start racing when you see that itâs Ukai.
You were thinking about him, and now heâs calling you. You donât wait to answer it, putting it on speaker as you set the phone back down. âYou cut off my music,â you say lightly, and you bite your lip a little when you hear his laugh come through the phone.
âSorry. I just wanted to check on you. Making sure youâre giving yourself a break,â he says, and your roommateâs words start to play in your mind.
âI actually havenât been working for that long,â you say, but then you look at the clock, seeing how much time has passed.
âReally? When did you start?â he questions, and when you go silent, he chuckles again. âOkay, so that means you need to take a break.â
âOkay, fine,â you relent. âIs that all you were calling about?â
âMaybe I just wanted to hear your voice.â You donât know how to respond to that, his words making you silent again. âI was having trouble focusing so I thought you might be able to help me.â
âAnd how would I be able to do that?â you ask, trying to calm your racing heart.Â
âDonât know,â he answers, which makes you roll your eyes. âI guess I could try and listen to music like you.â
âYou should, it helps.â
âIâd rather talk to you,â he replies almost too fast.
âBut I donât think itâs helping you,â you chuckle. âIt just sounds like Iâm distracting you.â
âIâm okay with that.â You put your hand over your mouth to stop yourself from screaming. What is happening right now?Â
âSo, you called me just to distract you then?â you ask after your quick freak out.
âYeah,â he answers quickly. âWork doesnât seem so bad now that Iâm talking to you.âÂ
You canât help but laugh. âWell, obviously. A lot of people would rather be doing anything else other than work.â
He goes silent for a second, and youâre about to ask him if heâs still there, but he talks before you can. âAm I being too much of a distraction?â
You let a shy smile appear on your face as you shake your head even though he canât see you. âNo, youâre not. I like talking to you,â you say, feeling your face warm.
âGood. I like talking to you too,â he says, and you quietly laugh, but you stop the urge to kick your feet like youâre in high school. Time seems to fly by as you talk to Ukai, and youâre having such a good time that you donât even notice that it has until your roommate knocks on your door.
âHey, girl, I was checking on you. You havenât come out of your room,â she says, peeking her head into your room.
âIâm taking breaks, donât worry,â you tell her, hoping that she wonât see that youâre on the phone with Ukai. âIâll probably finish up here soon.â That seems to be enough to convince her because she gives you a smile and a goodnight before she closes the door.
âSorry, that was my roommate,â you tell him.
âDonât worry about it. Glad to know you have someone thatâs making sure youâre taking care of yourself.â
âYeah, sheâs like my mom,â you laugh.
âI didnât mean to keep you on the phone this long, you probably got no work done,â he says.
âI actually did. So, talking to you helped after all.â
âWell, youâre welcome,â he jokes, and you roll your eyes. â...I donât wanna hang up,â he whispers after he goes silent, and in your head, you agree.Â
âWell,â you start. âI could call you after I get out of the shower,â you offer, and your eyes dart around to the things on your desk as you wait for his answer.
âYeah. That sounds good. Iâll be waiting.âÂ
âOkay, well, Iâll talk to you soon.â You hang up the phone, and you have to get it out, so you do a little happy dance before you calm yourself down. You jump violently when your door burst open.
âI knew you were talking to him!â your roommate yells. âYou canât fool me!â
âThank you for giving me a heart attack,â you sigh, grabbing your phone and standing up.
âSo, whatâs going on now? A date?â she presses, and you scoff as you shake your head.
âAbsolutely nothing of the sort. Iâm getting in the shower,â you say, pushing her out of your room so you can get ready.
âYeah, okay. You better keep me posted,â she tells you again, and you shake your head before closing the door.Â
You shower quickly, washing your face, and brushing your teeth before you get in bed. You wait for a little just in case he might be showering too, and it takes you a while to even call him at that. Your finger hovers over the call button in your recents until you finally press it. It doesnât even ring twice before he picks up.
âI missed you.â
âIt hasnât even been that long,â you say, a laugh leaving your chest against your will.
âDoesnât matter,â he tells you softly as you start to get comfortable. âYou laying down?â
âYes, I am. I might fall asleep on you if Iâm being honest,â you say, a yawn following right after.
âThatâs okay. You need to get your sleep.âÂ
Ukai ends up doing most of the talking which is fine by him, and he canât help but smile to himself when he hears your responses turning into soft hums. A part of him wishes he wouldâve video called you so that he could see you, but heâll take this for now. He stops talking once he can hear you softly snoring, but he doesnât hang up.Â
Sleep is right behind him, so he rolls over on his side, getting more comfortable. âGoodnight,â he tells you even though you canât hear him, and itâs not long until heâs asleep himself.
You had gotten enough work done this week that you had enough time to work on your presentation with Ukai. You decided to meet up at his place this weekend, and you feel so conflicted with yourself as you stand in front of your mirror trying to figure out what to wear.
âWhy am I being like this?â you mumble to yourself. Youâve been trying to tell yourself not to worry about it and just put on some clothes, but thereâs a part of you that has too much of a say to let you do just that. Youâve put on and taken off so many clothes, the pile on your bed and floor only increasing.Â
You donât have time for this, having only about twenty minutes before you have to get there. Ukai lives pretty close to campus while you have to drive back and forth between your apartment and campus. Thatâs something you and your roommate hate, so youâre currently looking for a new place for next school year.Â
You groan out loud as the voice in your head tells you that you donât like the outfit you have on. You jump when you hear a knock on your door, and the familiar sight of your roommate peeking her head in fills your eyes. âYou okay?â
âYeah, of course,â you say, but sheâs always been good at reading you, and she frowns before pushing the door open further. Her eyebrows crease when she sees that your room looks like your closet exploded.Â
âYouâre worried about what youâre wearing? You going somewhere special or something?â she questions instantly, but even the question doesnât give you enough time to come up with a lie, because she quickly puts two and two together. âDonât tell me youâre going on a date.â
âItâs not a date,â you emphasize. âWeâre just working on a presentation we have to do on Monday.â
âWell, where are you meeting him?â she asks, and you look away from her, hesitant to answer. âHis place?â she says when you donât respond, and your reaction to the next question is all she needs to know the answer. âThis is news to me! Why didnât you tell me?!â
âBecause I knew you were gonna make a big deal about it, and I didnât wanna psych myself out.â
âOkay, okay. Relax, y/n,â she says, putting her hands on your shoulders. âThereâs nothing to be worried about. I wonât make a big deal about it because it isnât if you think about it. Itâs just two people working on a project,â she offers, and that perspective does make you feel better. âItâs only a big deal if you make it, and itâs not like itâs gonna be awkward. You both have been in close proximity before,â she adds, and you admit in your head that sheâs right.
âI guess you have a point,â you say, but youâre still looking around at all of the clothes youâve put on.Â
âBut, I can help you with an outfit,â she smiles, and you roll your eyes.Â
âYou just said it wasnât that big of a deal.â
âOkay, yeah, but that doesnât mean you canât dress up a little. Youâre going out, why wouldnât you?â she says, and you chuckle a bit, starting to consider if her words are a contradiction to what she just said, but you let her do it anyway.Â
While sheâs going through your clothes, you quickly text Ukai to tell him that youâre running a little late, and you canât help but smile when he responds almost instantly telling you itâs no big deal. Maybe you are overthinking this whole thing.Â
âOkay, here ya go.â You look up to see her holding one of your worn t-shirts, and some shorts, but when you look at which ones sheâs holding, you put your hands on your hips.
âI am not wearing those shorts,â you tell her, taking the shirt from her and slipping it on.Â
âWhy not? Itâs hot outside, you donât wanna be sweaty when you get there,â she tries, but youâre not buying it.
âI only wear those around the house,â you argue.
âAnd you will be around the house! His house,â she says, and youâre starting to realize that you donât have time for this, but you know that you wonât be able to pick out anything else to wear.
âFine. Iâm only putting them on because I donât have time,â you say, taking them from her, and she walks out to let you change into them. Theyâre not that short, but theyâre short enough, and seeing that you only have about ten minutes to leave, you canât waste time debating over what to wear.
You put your shoes on, making sure that you have everything before putting your backpack on. You walk out, tugging on the shorts when you feel like theyâre starting to ride up, and you all but glare at your roommate as you walk towards the door.Â
âHave fun!â she beams, and you squint your eyes at her.
âMm-hmm,â you mumble. âIâll be back later tonight.â You both say goodbye, and you close the door, locking it behind you, putting some pep in your step on your way to your car.
You know where his apartment is, so you make your way over there, and you try to repeat your roommateâs words in your head when you feel yourself starting to get nervous. You know thereâs no reason for you to be nervous, but you canât help it. You know that youâre feelings for him are starting to come back, and thereâs a part of you thatâs trying to fight it, but so far, suppressing things hasnât been the easiest thing to do.
Your roommate swears that heâs into you, which doesnât really help your case, but those words alone are enough to make you sweat. You donât know how you would feel if he felt the same way. Youâve felt something for him for almost all of high school, and if you think about it, those feelings never really left when you got to college.Â
You text him as soon as you park, and he meets you outside of his apartment. âSorry, Iâm running late,â you tell him when you get to him.
âDonât worry about it,â he says, and you follow him into the building and up the stairs to his apartment. You pick at your phone case as you will your heart to stop racing because you know itâs not from taking the stairs.Â
You follow him inside, and you look around, taking in the room. He mentioned having a roommate, but he said he wouldnât be here while you guys were working. You take your shoes off once you get in, and you see that he already has everything set up on the dining table. It almost has the same layout as your apartment except itâs much nicer. In the back of your head, you think to mention this place to your friend and see if sheâd like it.
âOkay, so Iâve already finished my paper, but I wanted you to read over it just to make sure that ours donât overlap,â he says when he sits down.Â
You sit down in the chair next to him, taking your backpack off so that you can get your laptop out. âThat sounds good, but Iâll admit I havenât written most of it,â you admit shyly, and he waves you off.
âThatâs okay. It shouldnât take you that long anyway,â he reassures, and you pull up the half-written document. You read over his, and youâre relieved that he ended up talking about something completely different from yours. You tell him what you want to talk about for your presentation, and he helps you out by pulling up the reading and offering what parts of it you could pull from.Â
Writing your paper takes about an hour, and then you both work on the PowerPoint slides you have to have with questions to ask the class about the readings. Your stomach grumbles suddenly once youâre finishing up, and thatâs when you remember that you forgot to eat while you were panicking about what to wear.
âSorry,â you laugh, and he laughs under his breath.
âIâm getting hungry too,â he says. âThere are places around here that we could eat at if youâre okay with that.â
âYeah, Iâm good with that.â You both put your shoes on, and you follow him out onto the street, and thereâs a bunch of places that are within walking distance where you could eat. You donât care where to eat, so you agree on the first place that he offers. Youâve never been there before, but Ukai reassures you that itâs good. You both talk about anything and everything as you walk to the place, and when you get inside, itâs super packed.
âI guess it is dinner time,â he says as he takes the place in. âWe can just take it to-go if thatâs okay with you?â he offers, and you nod, in no mood to oppose as you look at how many people are in here. Ukai orders first, and instead of paying, he turns to you. âWhat do you want?â he asks, and you tell him, but then heâs repeating your order to the person at the register, and you realize what heâs doing.
âUkai, you donât have to pay,â you try, but he just shrugs you off. You try to memorize the price as you both move to the side while you wait for your food. âIâll pay you back.â
âSeriously, y/n. Donât worry about it,â he tells you again, but you donât look very convinced. âHow about you pay me back by helping me with my stats homework?â
âThat doesnât sound like a fair trade.â
âIt does to me. I didnât do well on the first exam, and I need some serious help,â he explains, and you decide that heâs not going to let you pay him back, so you give up.
âFine. Iâll help you out then.â The smile he gives you makes your heart flutter, and you donât get much time to take in how you feel because your food is ready.Â
You walk back to his apartment, and you silently thank your friend for picking out shorts because even though the sun is starting to go down, the air is still really warm. You arenât walking that fast, so luckily youâre not a sweating mess when you get back to his apartment.Â
You push your work aside so that you can eat at the table, and he puts on a show that heâs been watching for a while. Youâve never seen it, and when you tell him, he looks at you like youâve offended him terribly. He starts the show over for you, and it seems like a pretty good show, and you make a note of the name so you can continue to watch it.Â
You finish eating in the middle of the first season, and you both move to the couch so you can finish it. Ukai tells you that heâll start on the work once itâs over, and you wonder if he actually means that. Your focus on the show starts to waver when you notice how close heâs sitting to you. Heâs wearing shorts, so when his leg brushes against yours, it sends goosebumps across your skin. You try to pay attention because you donât want to miss anything, but itâs even more difficult when he places his arm on the back of the couch behind you.
You donât think itâs a cliche move because you look at him from the corner of your eye, and heâs completely engrossed in the show even though heâs seen it probably a million times. You realize how tense you are, and you try to relax, but that means youâd be relaxing into him, and you donât want to make anything awkward.Â
You decide to rub over your arms since itâll keep you from touching him. âAre you cold?â he asks, and you turn your head to him quickly.
âNo, no. Iâm fine,â you say with a shake of your head, and you quickly turn back to the TV, but you can see him looking over you, so you put your hands on your lap. He finally follows your gaze, and you release a breath you didnât know you were holding.
The last episode of the season plays, and Ukai groans loudly. âGuess I have to do my homework now,â he says to your surprise. You guess he was serious about actually doing his work.Â
âCan I use your bathroom?â you ask, standing up and feeling relieved that youâre not sitting directly next to him anymore.
âYeah, my roomâs right there,â he says, pointing at the right door. Heâs been fighting it since you got here, but he watches you walk away, and his eyes slide up your legs. He can see some of your ass peeking out from your shorts before you pull them down, and he sighs softly to himself as he diverts his eyes.Â
He turns his head quickly before he stands and turns the TV off. He sits down at the table while he gets his stuff out, and he hears you come back into the room. You sit down next to him, and he shows you one of the problems that heâs struggling with. You move your seat closer to his so that you donât have to lean over, and he immediately thinks about how good you smell.
He noticed when he was sitting next to you, and thatâs when he also noticed that he had put his arm behind you. He didnât move his arm because he didnât want it to be awkward, but he had to strongly fight the urge to pull you into him. He felt his hair stand up on end whenever he accidentally brushed against you, and the entire time he thought about if he should say something to you.
âKeishin.â His eyes snap to yours, realizing that he was just staring at his notebook. âAre you okay?â you ask softly.
âYeah, Iâm fine. Sorry, I just got lost in thought,â he says, giving a smile so that he doesnât have to explain that he was daydreaming about you.
âDonât worry about the exam. Iâm sure youâll do fine.âÂ
âOf course, I will. I have you to help me,â he says, thankful that you think heâs stressed about the exam. His smile widens when yours does, and he feels so much right now that he almost opens his mouth, but then youâre turning your attention back to the work. So, he clears his thoughts and decides to focus on his work too.
Heâs relieved when he realizes that heâs not doing as bad as he thought, he was just having some trouble remembering when to do what. You have him go over it multiple times, and it helps, and when you think heâs ready, you have him try some practice problems.
Heâs definitely nervous to try them out, but your reassurance is what gets him to try them. You busy yourself with some other classwork, and heâs grateful because he doesnât know what heâd be able to do if you were watching him. He makes sure to check over his work, even putting his work through the calculator more than once to make sure that heâs getting the same answer as before.
He lets you know that heâs finished, and his professor added the answers to the questions, so you look over his work and the answers. He fiddles with his pencil in nervousness and anticipation as he watches you check. It feels like it takes forever and it almost kills him, but then you finally look up at him.
âYou did really well! Thereâs a couple that you messed up on, but other than that, Iâd say that youâd got this stuff down.â He takes a breath of relief, running his hand down his chest as he leans back in his seat.
âThank God,â he breathes.Â
âYou just have to trust yourself. You know what youâre doing, just donât get nervous,â you tell him. âI know when I do that, I end up freaking myself out so much that I start to forget things.â
âThank you so much. I owe you one.â
âDonât worry about it. Itâs definitely not something I understood at first, so Iâm happy to help.â At your words, for some reason, he feels like you might be about to leave, and he selfishly doesnât want that to happen.
âDo you mind checking over my work again? I wanna go through some more just in case,â he tries, and he tightens his grip on his pencil, hoping you say yes.
âOf course. While youâre working, Iâm getting work done too, so itâs a win-win,â you answer, and heâs never felt more elated. He nods, getting to work on more problems, and you switch your attention back to the work you were doing.Â
You get up to go to the bathroom again, and you stretch when you do, and Ukaiâs eyes catch on your shorts again. He diverts his eyes as soon as you walk out of his line of sight, and he shakes his head. Focus. He sighs, getting back on track, and finishes the problem with ease. He gets to the next one though, and heâs stuck.
He tries to do it himself, but when he feels like heâs not doing something right, he stops so that he doesnât get too far ahead of himself. Luckily, you come back when he stops, so he asks you right before you sit back down.
âI just wanna make sure Iâm starting this right,â he says, and you put your hand on the back of his chair before you lean down to see what heâs doing. You lean down a little bit more to look at his work, and he holds the urge to flinch when your shirt brushes against his ear. He takes a deep breath in, your scent filling his nose, and he desperately wants to know what it is.Â
He thinks it might be like shea butter or something but before he can get a chance to investigate further, you break him out of his thoughts. âYeah, youâre fine. Looks good to me,â you say, and he makes the mistake of turning to look up at you.
He was going to say something, but the words die in his throat when he looks at your face. He gets lost in your eyes and the curve of your lips, and he canât look away. He looks back at your eyes, and to his surprise, youâre looking at his lips too. He has half a mind to just say fuck it and lean in, but then he feels you rub at his back.
âHave more confidence in yourself, Keishin,â you say, smiling at him before you move to sit back down. Heâs glad that there doesnât seem to be any awkward air between the two of you, and he realizes that his heart is racing when he looks back at his work. It feels like the motion of your hand rubbing his back is burned into his skin, and he would give anything to feel it again.
Ukai yawns as he finishes the last of the problems, and he passes the notebook to you. He rubs over his eyes as you look over them, and it doesnât take you long to look through them. âYou did great. You got all of them right,â you say with a yawn.
âI guess we better call it a night,â he says around a laugh that you copy, but then he looks at the time. âShit, I didnât mean to keep you here so late.â
You blink sleepily as you yawn again, looking at the time. âOh, God. I didnât even know I was here for that long,â you hum.
He once again doesnât want you to leave. âYou can sleep here for the night if you want, Iâll sleep on the couch,â he offers, and at the same time, you look like you could fall asleep any minute now.
âI couldnât take your bed,â you try, but you end up yawning again.
âSeriously. Itâs the least I could for keeping you here so long.â Heâs really tired himself. He woke early this morning to make sure that his apartment was spotless. Heâs never done so much cleaning, but he wonât tell you that.
Surprisingly, you donât put up much of a fight, but he canât really blame you. âAlright,â you say. âDo you have an extra toothbrush?âÂ
âYeah, of course. Just let me use the bathroom first,â he answers, and you give him a nod, turning to your work to finish it up. He mildly panics when he gets to his room because he didnât think about changing his sheets. He quickly uses the bathroom, brushing his teeth after, and tries his hardest to change his sheets as fast as he can.Â
Heâs nearly sweating by the end of it, but he can proudly say that he set a record for himself. He kicks the dirty sheets into his closet before grabbing the toothbrush and setting it on the bathroom counter. If you noticed that he was gone for so long, you donât question it, which heâs grateful for even though he prepared a lie just in case.Â
âMy roomâs all yours,â he jokes, and you canât help but laugh before you stand. You yawn again as you stretch, and Ukai finally fights the urge to look over your body again.Â
âAre you sure itâs okay if I sleep in your room? I can sleep on the couch, I donât mind.â
âYes, itâs fine. You look more tired than me right now. Iâll be fine,â he says, and you give him a sleepy smile that only strengthens his words.Â
âWell, thanks. Goodnight, Keishin.â
âGoodnight,â he echoes, and thereâs a part of him thatâs ecstatic that he gets to say it to you in person, and he ignores the pang in his chest that he canât be laying next to you as he says it. You walk to his room, and he watches until you softly close the door. He already grabbed a pillow from his bed before he walked out, so he throws that onto the couch.
He has a blanket on the couch, so he lays down, throwing it over himself and he tries to get comfortable. This couch isnât the most comfortable, and heâs fallen asleep on it before, but there was no way he was going to ask you if you wanted to share a bed with him. He finds himself thinking about what wouldâve happened if you had said yes.
His thoughts start to derail right after that, and he groans before deciding to turn on the TV. Itâs the only way heâll be able to keep his thoughts at bay. He turns the volume down, and he puts on a show that he can fall asleep to. Of course, it only works for so long. He hasnât heard you say his first name at all. Today was the first time, and he canât help but smile widely at the thought.Â
He always wanted to say something to you in high school, but you never gave him the time of day. Now that he thinks about it, he doesnât blame you at all. His friends werenât kind to you at all, and he doesnât even think he would call them friends. His real friends were in different classes with him, and he really only hung with them after school or on the weekends.
There were times that he told them to stop messing with you, and they took it as him having a crush on you, which was very much true, but he didnât want that getting out, so he kept his mouth shut. Seeing you again and spending so much time with you has made him realize how stupid he was. He was more worried about himself than you, someone that he really liked, and he hates himself every time he thinks about it.
He hopes one day heâll get the courage to tell you everything. Right now, heâs more than content with having what he has with you, and he doesnât want to say anything to ruin that. He definitely wants to come clean about high school, thereâs no doubt about it. But there is doubt if youâll even talk to him after he reveals everything.
He plays back your first interaction in his head every night before he goes to sleep. At first, it kept him up at night. You had every right to act as you did towards him, and he tried to play it cool while he was with you, but after you left, he felt like total shit. He put his number in your phone to see how you would react, and he was more than relieved when you kept talking to him.
As he starts to fall asleep, he thinks about what heâs going to say to you. He hopes that when he finally gets the confidence and the chance, he wonât mess it up. He tries to rehearse it in his head, but he falls asleep as soon as he starts.
He doesnât know how long heâs been asleep, but as he starts to wake up, he hears a familiar voice. âDude, why are you sleeping on the couch? Get in your bed.â He recognizes that itâs his roommate, but thatâs about all he can register. He was a lot more tired than he thought.Â
He groggily makes his way to his room, and even in the dark, he can easily locate his bed, like itâs calling to him. He sheds his shirt and nearly sighs in comfort at the relief he feels when his body hits the bedsheets. He notices that he canât stretch out like he wants to, but heâs starting to fall asleep, so he doesnât worry about it that much. His bed also isnât cold like it should be, but he gladly accepts the warmth, wrapping his arm around the pillow, and it takes no time for him to fall back asleep.
Ukai notices that the sun is peeking through the blinds as he starts to wake up. He takes a deep breath in, and he swears his nostrils fill with your scent, but this time heâs getting something different. Mango, maybe? He leans further into it, taking another deep breath, and whatever the source may be is soft against his face. He could stay here forever.
He tightens his arm around his pillow, settling in again as the smell starts to put him back to sleep. But he frowns when he faintly notices that his pillow is moving. He slowly opens his eyes, and his heart drops when he realizes that it hasnât been a pillow all along. His eyes widen when he sees you laying in his arm, and his heart begins to race.Â
Youâre looking right at him, but thereâs nothing that can come out of his mouth. Youâre just waking up too, and you blink a bit, but thereâs no hint of surprise on your face. âKeishin?â you whisper, and he never thought his name could sound so good coming from you.
âY-Yeah,â he mumbles, and he can feel his face warm at his stuttering, but he gives himself a break because heâs just waking up. You roll over so that your back is fully against the bed, and you rub over your eyes.Â
âWhat time is it?â
âItâs only nine-thirty,â he says after he looks at his clock, and you groan softly.
âGod, that is too early for a weekend.â He smiles at your sleepy state, and he canât take his eyes off of you. You raise your arm over your head to stretch, and he notices that your shirt rises, and he canât help but let his eyes trail down your body. His breath catches in his throat when he sees how high your shorts have ridden up, and thereâs only one thing on his mind.
His eyes cut towards you when you call his name again, and heâll blame his tired brain later, but he leans down closer to you. âAm I dreaming?â he questions, and his hand is itching to touch you, so he carefully puts his hand on your face.
âI donât think so,â you whisper, and he can barely hear it over the blood pumping in his ears. He glances down at your lips when you lick over them, and thereâs no way heâs going to be able to stop himself now.
âGood.â When you donât make any move to pull away, he takes the opportunity to press his lips to yours. He sighs at how soft your lips are, and he only gets more eager when you kiss him back. You said he wasnât dreaming, but this sure feels like he is. He pulls away only for a second, missing the feeling of your lips almost the instant he does.
He goes in for another, and you let your arm loosely loop around his neck as you meet him halfway. He groans when you deepen the kiss as you roll over onto your side, and he grabs your leg, putting it over his body. Heâs borderline frantic to feel every part of you, and he lets his hand run up your leg, his fingers just barely getting under your shorts.
You move in closer to him, so he allows himself to let his hands drift up further, and your shorts have moved up so high, that they barely get in the way of him feeling even more of your ass. You moan when he pulls back with your lip in between his teeth, and heâs never felt so hot. He stops for a second to look at you, and your heavy breathing is the only thing that can be heard in the room.
Your lips are swollen from his kisses, and your pupils are blown wide as you look up at him, and he thought there was no way you could get any prettier, but right now, youâre proving him wrong again. âFuck,â he breathes before he leans back in, rolling the both of you over while keeping your leg in his hand.
Your hands rub all over his chest, and you run your hands up his back, and he shudders at the motions, goosebumps rising all over as blood rushes straight to his dick. Your arms find their place around his neck, and he abandons his hold on your leg in favor of letting his weight press into you.
He pulls away to quickly pull your shirt off, and you easily let your upper half lift off the bed so he can do so. His movements slow when his eyes land on your chest, your boobs are basically falling out of the bralette youâre wearing, and his brain short circuits. He canât think about anything else, and he swallows heavily when you pull the straps down, fully exposing yourself to him.
He lets your shirt fall next to you, and like heâs in a trance, his hands reach up to squeeze at the underside of the fat, and he wants to pinch himself. Thereâs no way heâs really doing this with you, but heâll worry about this being a dream later. He kisses you again, feeling like thatâs the only way he can regulate his breathing right now as he continues to fondle your tits.Â
He kisses down your neck, feeling like he might go crazy as he kisses over your chest before he slips one of your nipples in his mouth. He moans when you do, his name slipping from your lips as your hands slip into his hair. He ruts against you, and heâs definitely drooling as he sucks at your chest, but he doesnât even care.
You pull him back to your face, and he kisses you sloppily, your legs wrapping around his torso when he grinds even harder against you. âK-Kei,â you keen, and he rests his forehead against yours, his pleasure becoming too much for him to continue to kiss you. You arch into him, and he swears when your chest pushes into his. Heâs definitely close to cumming, feeling his pleasure start to mount in his spine, and he digs into his teeth into whatever part of your skin he can reach to try and hold himself back as he pulls at your shorts.
Right as he does though, his burst open, scaring the both of you. Ukai quickly falls on his side to hide you, and he looks over his shoulder to see his roommate standing in the doorway. âWhat?!â he barks, and the guy holds his hands up.
âSorry, dude,â he laughs before quickly walking back out, slamming the door when he leaves. Ukai doesnât even want to look at you, the air now becoming awkward in the silence. He slowly turns his head towards you, and when he makes eye contact, you canât help but laugh. He internally sighs in relief as he laughs with you, and yours dies down when your phone starts ringing.
He hands it to you, and you give him a small smile as you answer it. He doesnât listen to the conversation because heâs too busy looking at you. His eyes stay on your lips while you talk before they trail down to your chest, and he can see the marks he left on you which causes him to twitch in his shorts.
âSorry, I totally forgot. Iâm leaving right now.â That makes him look up at you, and you hang up the phone, taking a while to meet his eyes. âI forgot I had plans with my roommate today. That was her,â you tell him, and he pushes down the disappointment that he feels, and he thinks that he hears it in your voice; at least he hopes so.
âNo, thatâs okay. I should probably see what my friend wanted,â he responds, and you quietly grab your clothes and put them back on. He moves over so that you can get out of bed to get to the bathroom, and he releases a heavy breath through his mouth when the door closes.
He runs a hand through his hair as he tries to think about what in the fuck got into him, and he wills his hard-on to go away. He gets off his bed, sliding his shirt on right as you open the door, and he goes in after you. He doesnât even try to look at himself in the mirror while he brushes his teeth, and when he walks back out, youâre standing by his bed, looking at your phone.
You look up at him when he walks into the room, and he pulls his shirt down to cover himself. âSorry, I have to leave so suddenly,â you say, and he waves you off.
âItâs okay. We got a lot of work done yesterday, so itâs all good.â You give him a little nod, and he quickly decides to walk towards the door so things donât get awkward. You follow him out of his room, and his roommate is sitting on the couch when you walk out. He looks over his shoulder just as your grabbing your backpack.
âSorry for interrupting earlier,â he laughs. âIâm Takinoue.â
Ukai glares at him as you feel your face warm. âNice to meet you. Iâm y/n,â you say softly, and Ukaiâs eyes widen when Takinoueâs does.
âWait, youâre y/n? The girl thatââ
âShe really has to go, so end of the introduction,â Keishin rushes out, and he pushes you towards the door. While youâre slipping your shoes on, Ukai smacks his friend on the back of the head, but before he can turn around, heâs already slipping his shoes on and walking with you out the door.Â
Neither of you speaks as he walks you to your car, and he doesnât know what to say when you finally get there. âUh, thanks again for the help last night. I really appreciate it,â he eventually says.
âYouâre welcome. Just let me know if you need any more help,â you tell him, and that reassures him a bit that maybe you didnât hate what you both did earlier. But now, he doesnât whether to wave, hug you, or kiss you. He definitely wants to do the last one; his hands are itching to touch you again, but he doesnât know if youâd be okay with that.
You break him out of his thoughts when you take a step closer to him and kiss his cheek. His world seems to stop when you do, and you pull away, having a hard time holding his gaze. âSee you on Monday, Keishin.â
Heâs too dazed to respond, barely remembering you getting in the car, and the next thing he knows, youâre driving away. He doesnât jump out of it until your car is long out of his sight, and when he finally does, he smiles widely against his will. He softly touches his cheek, and he doesnât lose the smile on his face as he walks back to his apartment.
But it drops the moment he opens the door and sees his friendâs smug smile. âYou werenât gonna tell me that youâre sleeping with the girl that youâve been pining over since high school?â he questions, and you Ukai shakes his head as he rolls his eyes.
âWeâre not sleeping together, okay? We were just working on a project last night.â
âFor what class? Anatomy?â he jokes, and it actually makes him laugh.
âHa! Good one,â he muses. âBut we finished really late, so I let her take the bed. Thatâs why I was on the couch.â He rubs his hand down his face as he sighs, but it doesnât take long for him to smile again.
âWell, it looks like you shouldâve just taken the bed anyway. You look like a lovesick puppy.â
âFuck you,â he retorts with no heat behind it, but itâs not like he can deny it. Heâs still not sure if heâs dreaming or not, and in the back of his head, heâs waiting for himself to wake up.Â
âSo, what happens now? Are you actually gonna confess to her? Youâve only been waiting for this moment for like, five years.â He hates how he still canât answer that question. With the way everything is going, heâs thinking that itâll be better to not tell you the truth, but on the other hand, he wants to come clean to you and tell you everything. And Takinoueâs right, heâs been waiting for a miracle, and itâs finally here.
He thought he would jump at the opportunity, but with the first interaction he had with you, he held back. âI donât know,â he eventually says.
âDonât stress it too much, man. As far as Iâm concerned, it looks like she feels the same way,â he says, with a hard clap on his back that makes him stumble forward a bit, and it definitely feels intentional. At least now he knows heâs not dreaming. âAnd that also explains why the apartment was spotless when I got home. Now whereâd you put my shit?â he asks, and Ukai lets himself drop his dilemma for now.
~
When you get home, you close the door behind you and let your back fall against the door. Even if what happened with Ukai was long ago, your heart is still racing just thinking about it. You donât know what came over either of you, but thereâs not a single bone in your body that hated it. You rub your fingers over your lips as your mind starts to replay the events in your head.
You jump when your roommate opens her door, and you quickly stand up. âWhat happened? Are you okay?â
âYeah, yeah. Iâm fine,â you say. âIt was really late, so I just slept over at his place since I was so tired.â You try to school your expression so that she doesnât pick up on anything, and you hope the look on your face is convincing enough.
âSo, did anything happen?â
âAh, no. We just worked on our presentation, it was pretty uneventful,â you say, and to be honest, youâre a little bit embarrassed to admit to her what happened. Maybe itâs because youâre still reeling from it. âJust let me hope in the shower, and Iâll be ready to go.â
Surprisingly, she lets you walk past her without saying anything else, and when you get to your room after closing the door, the events of this morning start to hit you. You go from sitting in shock to flailing in one spot just to get it out of you. You take a deep breath, composing yourself before you get in the shower.
Your shower takes a little longer than you anticipated because your thoughts keep running from you in all the wrong ways. You throw some cold water on your face when you get out, telling yourself to get it together. You get dressed, and your friend is waiting at the dining table for you when you walk out.
She looks up from her from, and her words die in her throat when she looks at you. You frown when her smile disappears, and she points an accusing finger at you. âYou bitch! You lied to me!â she yells, and youâre still very much confused until you look down at your chest where sheâs pointing. Your eyes widen and you feel your face warm when you see hickeys all over your chest.Â
You donât know how you didnât notice until now, but thanks to the low-cut shirt youâre wearing, you almost showed everyone what you were up to this morning. âUmâŠâ you say weakly, covering your chest with your hands. âIâll go change and we can get out of here,â you try, but you donât even get to take a step back before she speaks.
âAbsolutely not, missy. You sit your ass right here and tell me everything.â You sigh, knowing that sheâs going to get it out of you sooner or later, and you sit down across from her. She looks so invested, resting her hands on her face as she leans forward. âSo, did you guys sleep together?â
âNo,â you start with a shake of your head before you shrug. âWell, kinda. It was really late, and I was tired, so he said I could sleep in his bed. When I woke up, he was there, andâŠstuff happened.â
âWhat happened?! Tell me everything!â she presses, and your face gets even hotter just thinking about it.
âWe just made out,â you eventually say. âHis roommate walked in, so it didnât go much further than that.â Honestly, you donât know what you wouldâve done if his roommate hadnât interrupted. You probably wouldâve done anything with him at that moment.
âSo, how was it?â she presses.
âIt was really good,â you gush, a laugh rushing out of your chest. âIt was the hottest thing Iâve ever done,â you add, feeling how hot your face is when you put your hands on it.
âI bet,â your roommate laughs. âI can see that youâre flustered from here.â You canât help but laugh again, putting your hands over your face and sighing. âSo, whatâs your relationship now?â
âI donât know. We really didnât talk about it. Like I said, it was just a kinda spur-of-the-moment thing.â
âWell, Iâm getting that it means youâre admitting your feelings for him,â she responds, and move your hands to look at her.
âIâm scared too,â you answer honestly. âI donât wanna say that, and then he pulls a complete one-eighty on me.â
âThatâs understandable, but truthfully, I donât think heâs the same guy he was in high school. From what youâve been telling me, it doesnât sound like heâs going to do that to you.â You let her words bounce around in your head, both of you going silent as you think.
âMaybe,â you say after a while.
âHave some faith, girl. I bet he likes you a lot more than you like him.â Her words make you smile, and then she stands up. âAlright, we need to get a move-on if we want to make it to this thrifting event on time.â
âYou were the one who wanted me to tell you about what happened,â you say after you scoff.Â
âWell, it was only natural. You tell me it was uneventful, but you have hickeys on your chest? Iâd be crazy not to ask,â she counters, and she has a point because you would do the same thing if the tables were turned.
You go back into your room to change your shirt, and then youâre walking out the door with your roommate, putting your situation with Ukai to the side for a while.
Monday rolls around faster than youâd like, and you spend all morning thinking about how the conversation with Ukai will go. Youâre not dreading it, youâre just more worried about if your conversation will be awkward or not. You get to class pretty early since you woke up early, and you listen to your music as you wait for Ukai to get here.
You pull up the paper that you have to present while you wait, and you read over it just in case. Thereâs no point in making any changes since you had to submit it to your professor before class, but you still want to go over it anyway. You freeze for a split second when you see Ukai sit down next to you in your peripheral, and you slide your headphone off your head, but you donât look his way.
âMorning,â you hear him say, and you turn to him, having a hard time keeping your smile small.
âM-Morning.â You pick at the corner of your laptop as you internally roll your eyes at how nervous you are.
âListen,â he starts, leaning towards you and lowering his voice. âIâm sorry if I made you uncomfortable yesterdayââ
âNo, itâs okay,â you say, cutting him off. âIt wasâI, umâŠI liked it,â you whisper, and thereâs no way you can look him in the eyes after saying that. Both of you jump when the professor announces for you to start your presentation.Â
Thankfully, it goes off without a hitch, the only thing is, you started to notice about halfway through your paper that someoneâs glaring at you. You couldnât figure out who it was while you were reading, but when you start to ask the class questions, you realize it was the girl that tried to talk to Ukai a while ago.
You try not to let it affect you, but you have no idea why sheâs staring you down. You donât know if Ukai notices her too, but before you know it, itâs all over. You sigh quietly in relief when the professor says that class is over, and you both pack up your stuff. You notice that Ukai is walking way closer to you when you walk out of class, and you feel sparks go up your arm every time his hand brushes against yours.
âIâd say we did pretty good,â he says while you both walk.
âYeah. She seemed really happy with our questions. I have you to thank for that, though. You did most of the work,â you respond.
âIâd say it was pretty even,â he jokes, and you canât help but laugh. âOur usual spot?â he asks, and you nod even though the both of you are already walking that way.Â
The area you usually sit in is pretty empty when you get there, and you and Ukai both sit where you usually do. You sit next to him, but thereâs no way you can get any work done. Even though itâs quiet, the air between you is stiflingly filled with attraction.Â
Since youâre not going to get any work done, you carefully lay your head on his shoulder, and you bite your lip to hide your smile when he wraps his arm around you. âYou gonna nap?â he asks, you nod as you press further into him.
âYeah, Iâm gonna try.â You turn your face to press it into his shoulder, and you close your eyes as you breathe him in. He smells so good, and itâs nearly too late when you start to realize that youâre getting warm all over. You will yourself to calm down, but thereâs no way youâre going to be able to go to sleep, so you keep your eyes open, focusing on what work heâs doing every now and then.
When you feel yourself starting to go to sleep, itâs too late because you feel him shaking you gently to let you know that you have to get to class. He gets up after you do, and you wait for him to put his stuff in his backpack before you leave. When he stands, heâs nearly in your space, but you make no move to step back. You actually want to step closer to him, but you have to remind yourself that youâre not alone.
You look around, and you see that you are, but thereâs no way youâd be bold enough to do anything in public anyway. You both look at each other for a second before you move to kiss him on the cheek again. Itâs the only thing you bring yourself to do right now. âIâll see you later,â you whisper when you step back, but you donât even get a chance to turn around.
He grabs your wrist softly, pulling you into him with his hand on the back of your neck. His lips meet yours for a hungry kiss, and you canât help but melt into him, and suddenly youâre forgetting about being in public. Youâre dazed when you pull away, your breathing ragged as you let your fingers softly touch your lips.
You look around again, and when the coast is clear, you move towards him again, and he holds you closer to him as he deepens the kiss. Fuck, heâs such a good kisser. Every single one makes you feel like youâre floating, but he pulls away the moment you moan. âYou should go,â he breathes, his hands resting on your hips. âCause if you donât, I wonât be able to let you go.â
You give him a shaky nod, and it seems like it takes forever for you to step back from him, and you nearly donât, deciding that class isnât so important anymore. But you really should go. His hands slip from your hips when you move, and it takes everything in you to walk away from him. You give him a small wave, hightailing out of there before you can change your mind.
Turns out, you shouldâve just stayed with him because you reply the kiss over and over in your head the whole class period.
~
âHey, are you doing anything Friday?â your friend asks, and you look up from your homework.
âNo, I donât think so. Why?â
âCause my teamâs having a mixer, and I can bring a plus-one, and you need to get out. Youâve been studying all week,â she says, and you roll your eyes.
âI donât know. I donât really know any of your teammates,â you tell her, and she waves you off.
âJust bring your boyfriend. Itâll be fun.â
âHeâs not my boyfriend!â you yell, but sheâs already walking to her room.Â
She has a point though. Youâve been nothing but working all week, and the only time youâve seen Keishin is during class, which always leads to a heated kiss that has you wanting more. Even when you look back down at your work, you donât want to think about it anymore, so you decide to take the offer.
You text Ukai about it, and he instantly agrees. You start to feel nervous just thinking about it, especially since you donât attend things like this very often. Youâve been to a few due to your friendâs outgoing nature, but sometimes you just like to be at home watching your favorite show. But, maybe it wonât be so bad since Ukai will be with you.
When Friday rolls around, youâre waiting on your friend to finish getting ready, so youâre sitting on the couch. You offered to drive since you wonât be drinking that much anyway, and you stand when you hear her heels clicking on the floor behind you. âWhy are you wearing that?â she asks, and you look down at your outfit.
âWhatâs wrong with it? I thought youâd like that Iâm wearing a dress,â you muse, even though youâre going to be tugging on it all night. It hugs your body way more than youâd like, but you bought it on a whim and youâve barely worn it.Â
âIâm talking about the jacket.â
âWhatâs wrong with the jacket? Itâs gonna get cold tonight,â you tell her, genuinely not understanding what sheâs getting at.
She rolls her eyes before she plants her hands on her hips. âYou canât show up with a jacket. Now, he canât give you one.â You instantly understand what she means, and you canât help but scoff.
âAre you seriously telling me to ditch the jacket just so Ukai will give me his?â
âUh, duh. Why else would I be telling you this?â You donât have much of a choice because she pulls it off of you, throwing it on the couch. You donât have time to protest because even in heels, sheâs moving out of the door quickly.Â
You must be here early because parking isnât absolute shit yet, and you can feel your nerves start to hit you as you walk up to the house. When you get inside, you quickly realize that this is nowhere near a mixer; itâs a full blown party. Your friend guides you to the kitchen, handing you a drink once she gets there, and her friends find her almost instantly.
They talk to you for a while, and you check your phone to see that Ukai just texted you. Your friend waits for him to get there before she leaves with her friends, and you both find a corner to occupy as the music pounds in your head. âThis isnât really your thing, is it?â He has to lean down to ask you, and you shake your head as you move your hand side-to-side.
âNot really, but my friend thought I should get out since Iâve been studying all week.âÂ
âShe sounds like a good friend,â he yells back, and that makes you laugh.
âWhen she wants to be, yeah.â The roomâs starting to fill up, so you grab his hand to find somewhere else to go. You decide to just step outside since theyâre playing music that you donât really listen to. âDid you drive here?â you ask, finally relieved that you can hear yourself think.
âYeah. I have a friend thatâs on the team, so Iâm the designated driver tonight.â
âSo am I,â you say, taking a sip of the seltzer, and you offer it to him. He takes a swig before he puts the drink down on the half-brick wall that youâre sitting on.
âAre you not cold?â he asks, gesturing to your body, and you nod your head quickly.
âOh, I definitely am. My friend told me to ditch the jacket though.â He gives you a questioning look, and you chuckle a bit before you explain. âShe said if I ditch the jacket, you would give me yours,â you explain. âYou donât have to though,â you add, but heâs already sliding it off, and your eyes land on his arms which look like they might rip the sleeves of his shirt.
He puts it on you, and itâs so warm that you canât help but curl into the warmth. You stick your arms in the sleeves, and he moves closer to you. You stand so that you can make your way in between his legs, and his hands land on your hips.Â
âYou look good tonight,â he comments, and you hum as you put your hands on his shoulders.
âYeah?â
He nods. âEspecially in my jacket,â he adds, wrapping his arms around you to pull you closer to him.
âAnd what are you gonna do about it?â you question, and he grabs both sides of his jacket in one hand to pull you down to him.Â
âIâll show you,â he whispers against your lips before he kisses you firmly, and you gladly let your weight fall on him. He easily catches you as you move your arms to hang over his shoulders. He keeps one of his arms wrapped around you while the other falls so that he can trail his hand up your leg. You know the goosebumps that rise on your skin arenât from the cold because your body starting to heat up and heâs barely started kissing you.
His fingers start to reach under the hem of your dress, and it feels so teasing to you that it makes you leak onto your panties. Youâre glad youâre in the backyard because you would be embarrassed otherwise at how easily heâs pulling all kinds of sounds from you. He sucks on your tongue, and youâre pretty sure you would let him do anything to you right now.
He groans when you pull at his hair, and his fingers dig into the fat of your ass as his fingers start to inch further up your dress. You jump away from him quickly when someone yells your name, and you look up to see a girl walking up to you. You recognize her as one of your friendâs teammates, and she carefully steps outside, but Ukai doesnât let you go.
Thatâs also when you realize that people could see you from inside since the curtains to the backdoor are wide open, but you donât have time to think about that because she starts talking to you. âWeâre playing seven minutes in heaven. You have to play!â
âO-Oh, I donât know about thatââ She cuts you off with a rough yank of your hand that nearly tips you over, and you grab Ukaiâs hand also since thereâs no way youâre stopping her. She pulls you upstairs, and you all walk into a room thatâs filled with people but not as many downstairs. Thereâs music playing in here, and when she closes the door, the music blasting downstairs is severely muffled.
She pulls you into the circle, and you quickly fix your dress when you sit down to make sure you donât flash anybody. âGod, itâs like she didnât stop,â you breathe, turning to Ukai when he sits down next to you.
âYeah, thatâs for sure.â
âIâm sure we can just sneak out of here in like, five minutes,â you say, but itâs too late because someone stands up and starts talking. You look around the room, and you start to feel uneasy when you see the same guy that Ukai nearly beat up. He barely spares either of you a glance, and you definitely feel uneasy when you see the girl that shares the same class with the both of you.
She makes eye contact with you, and she gives you a smile thatâs all too friendly. Thereâs no way you can leave now because thereâs no point in explaining the rules since everyone knows how to play. You and Ukai are definitely the only sober ones in the room, and you feel anxious as the girl from your class picks you to spin the bottle first.
You do it just to do it so you can get out of here faster because youâd rather be anywhere with Ukai but here. You chew on your lip nervously as the conversation gets quiet while people wait to see whoâs going in the closet with you. You nearly slump in relief when it lands on Ukai, and when you look at him, he has a look in his eyes that gets both of your heartbeats racing.
He gets up before you do, pulling you to the closet faster than you can even process whatâs going on. When he closes the door, you try to find a light to turn on, but heâs pushing you against the nearest wall before you can. As he pushes you, you feel something cold run across your forehead, and you assume itâs the string to the light, so you try to pull it while he kisses you frantically.Â
You manage to turn it on, but the moment it happens, you soon forget about it when his lips find your neck. He pulls the jacket off of you, letting it fall to the floor as his hands rub at your thighs. âKeishin,â you whisper, trying to keep your voice down since you donât know how soundproof the door is.
âIâm so glad it landed on me. I donât know if I would be able to handle you coming in here with someone else,â he breathes against your skin, and youâre glad it landed on him too, but thereâs no way youâre able to tell him that when he pushes your dress up so that itâs bunched at your waist.Â
He hikes your leg up so that itâs on his waist, and his other hand runs under the side of your panties. You jump when he finally touches you down there, and you hide your face in his hair to try and muffle your moans. He uses his other hand to pull your dress further up your body so until your tits fall out. The straps of the dress were designed where wearing a bra wouldâve looked weird, and you donât regret not wearing one at all right now.
You canât even begin to try and get a word in when he starts to suck at your tits at the same time he pulls your underwear to the side. You ball his shirt in your fist when he rubs at your clit, and you dig your teeth into the other side of his shirt. Youâre glad he has you up against the wall because you definitely wouldâve fallen otherwise.Â
You wanna try and make him feel good too, but heâs got you trapped between him and the wall, and thereâs no way you could, so you just let the pleasure overtake you. You feel tears start to form at the corner of your eyes when he slides his fingers into you, and youâre confident the groan he releases is loud enough for everyone outside to hear.
âOh, God,â you whine. âOh, God, Keiââ You stand on your toes to the best of your ability when he presses against your walls, and your fingers hurt from how hard youâre gripping his shirt. He finally abandons your chest in favor of watching your face as he fingers you, nudging your head up with his shoulder, and you bite into your lip as your pleasure builds.
âFuck, baby, youâre so hot,â he moans as he looks at you, and he pulls your lip out from between your teeth.
âT-Theyâll hearâme,â you try to whisper.
âI donât care. Let âem hear how good Iâm making you feel, baby.â You canât fight the urge to bite your lip, and you let your head fall back against the wall. Youâre definitely starting to get too loud, so he crashes your lips onto his. He swallows every sound you make, pressing up against you even more when he presses on that spot that has you keening into his mouth.
The knock on the door should startle you but it doesnât. The only thing you care about now is how good youâre feeling. The second round of knocks are harder, and this time you hear a voice, but you donât know what theyâre saying. He kisses you soundly as he slides his fingers out of you, and you donât hide your disappointment.
He slides his fingers into his mouth, his breathing just as ragged as yours when he pulls them out. âIâm nowhere near done with you,â he whispers, and he fixes your dress right as the door opens. He picks up his jacket off of the floor, and he grabs your hand, making a bee-line for the exit.Â
Heâs suddenly stopped by a familiar face with another familiar face on his arm. âI knew you could do it,â he says, and he hands Ukai some money. You both frown at him, and the girl laughs.
âYou won the bet, Ukai,â she says, and you can feel your heart start to race in the wrong way as your hand starts to slip from his. âIt only took what? Like two months?â
âYou donât remember the bet we made before school started?â the guy asks, and you start to feel sick, looking over your shoulder to see everyone looking at you. You feel like you might puke as you wretch your hand from him and run out of the room. You hear Ukai call after you but you donât stop, running down the stairs and pushing past people, ignoring their comments.
You canât help but let the tears fall when you get outside once the music starts to fade. Your ears are ringing so badly, and your feet are moving you to your car. You let out a sob as you run, and you donât even hear your name being called behind you. A hand grabs your arm, and you try to shake it off, but it tightens its grip.
âLet me go!â you scream, turning around to see Ukai, and the only thing you see is the guy that let you get bullied in high school. âYouâre a piece of shit!â
âJust listen to me,â he tries, but you continue to fight him. âI donât know what heâs talking about. I didnât see him until that day!â he says, but youâre not listening.
You stop moving, and he doesnât let you go. âYouâre still that same guy. Nothing fucking changed and I fell for it!â You take the chance to slip out of his grip, and you succeed, making a run for your car. You unlock it, but right as you try to open it, his hand lands on yours.Â
âJust listen to me, please.â
âNo! I donât want to talk to you.â He turns you around so fast that it almost scares you, and he pushes you against your car door.
âAre you really going to listen to some people that you barely know instead of me?â he questions. Your lip is still wobbling, and you canât stop the tears that are running down your face.
âItâs not like I have anything else to go off of,â you bite back, and he presses you against the car a little harder when he thinks you might move.
âYes, you do. And you know it,â he declares. âI have no idea what the fuck they were talking about. I didnât even know he was going here until I saw him that day. And I havenât talked to her since that day in class.â You start to calm down, but your heart is still racing a mile a minute. âI really like you, okay?â he starts. âI have since I laid my eyes on you in high school, and Iâm sorry I didnât tell them to stop messing with you. I was more worried about myself.â
His words hang in the air between the two of you, and when you start to relax, he lets you go. âNothing that I have said or done with you has been a part of some bet. Everything I did was my choice.â
âHow do I know youâre telling the truth?â you ask, and you hate how your voice trembles.
âYou think I threaten to beat him up all for some bet? Iâm better than that, and you know it.â He lets his hands fall into your hands, grabbing them soft but his grip is firm. âI would never do something like that to you. Iâve been thinking about telling you the truth ever since I saw you that day, but I thought if I did, you would hate me. I couldnât live with that, so I stayed quiet.â
You donât respond, sniffling heavily. âAnd now Iâm realizing that that was the dumbest decision I couldâve ever made. Spending this time with you has been the best moment of my life,â he breathes. âDonât tell me that you donât feel the same.â
You canât even tell yourself that you donât feel the same. You know from the start that your feelings for him never left, and there was a part of you that just accepted it. But you were so scared to let your guard down, to be vulnerable with him like you are now.Â
âI really like you. I mean that. And Iâm sorry for letting you be hurt all this time.â You let go of his hand so that you can wipe your face.
âItâs not your fault,â you eventually say. âI do feel the same way, but I was scared. Back then and now, I blamed you for the bullying, but it was never your fault.â
âYes, it was,â he presses, but you stop him.
âNo. It wasnât.â You sniffle again, taking a deep, shaky breath. âI was letting the past dictate my feelings. I shouldntâve let their words get to me. But I was scared that you would hurt me if I let you back in.â
âI wonât hurt you again. I promise. Iâll never make you feel like that again.â He lets his head fall on yours as he speaks. âIâm sorry for all the pain I caused you, but I wonât let it happen again.â You pull away, looking in his eyes, and you lean forward to kiss him softly. He lets his hands move to your neck, kissing you back just as softly.Â
âI believe you,â you whisper when you pull away. âIâm sorry I didnât before. I really like you, too.â He canât help but smile, and he kisses you again just because he can.
âThank you.â
âFor what?â you ask, frowning a bit.
âFor letting me say what Iâve always wanted to say. I thought I lost my chance forever.â You shake your head, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing him again.
âNo,â you say. âNow you have me forever.â
